Back On Antibiotics - Bleck!

Recommended Posts

Well.....This is the third time I've had to take antibiotics since my surgery on 7/11. First time was for the incision infection, 2nd time for the infection in my intestines/bowel due to the first antibiotics causing an imbalance and killing my good bacteria in there. Got off the 2nd antibiotic two weeks ago...things seem to be much better and then bingo 3 days ago rut rooo.

The same thing started happening again. This time waking me up at 2am and kept me up. After 2 days called the doc and she put me back on antiotics to try to clear up the C. Diff. I asked to be tested again but, she said they don't usually test again. Basically if this two week supply doesn't make things better or if things get worse.....she's sending me to an infectious disease specialist.

Sure hope this clears up. I was so worried about it today that I packed extra clothes "just in case". I was out of work for 6.5 weeks...had to call in sick Tuesday because of this so I just HAD to go in today.

Weird part is...aside from this issue I feel great! Today I was thinking how I actually feel thinner....noticing my knees are hurting as much and my clothes are loose...but I'm tied to the bathroom :( Oh well...this too shall pass and I'm so looking forward to feeling 100% :)

I had food poisoning really bad and was literally on the toilet some days about 20 times a day. I ended up in Hosp for dehydration. It was scary and lasted over a week. They gave me meds for nausea which in turn constipated me! Ugh I thought I'd never be normal again. I started taking Probiotics and now everything is a-ok.

I was told that when you're going constantly like that it can strip all the good bacteria from your intestines and it's kind of a vicious circle.

As far as I know the probiotics can't do any harm. It might be worth a try.

Well this time around the doc has me on florastor (spelling) as well in hopes to get the good bacteria back in check.

Weirdest thing though.....I read all the stickers on the antibiotic bottle (cripe there are 5 of them not including the label) and one of them says May Cause Diarrhea during treatment. UMMM HELLO I'm trying to get rid of that not make more of it LOL

When it comes down to it....in my humble opinion....nothing is TMI in here. Anything any of us is going through can help someone else. :)

Jen in SoCal...antibiotics caused the whole issue in the first place for me. The initial antibiotics were for an incision infection.

Thanks everyone.....I'm sure I'll have the...ummm...errrrrr........oh heck just say...poops under control soon. hahaha

Hello I am so glad to see this post. I am 4days post op. on my second day I started with diarrhea that evening and they didn't say anything about C-Diff. Thursday evening the said they would be doing a culture to see what it was. I'm sure they knew before the culture but didn't start the antibiotic till late that night. I came home on Friday afternoon and still have bad diarrhea. I am afraid to leave my house. I'm just walking around inside and sleeping and drinking G-2.

What brand of probiotics do you take? Are they pills? My Dr said not to swallow anything larger than a Tic-Tac sized pill.

I researched probiotics after someone mentioned how well they worked to help regulate your system. I found a good one and ordered it. When it came the capsules were pretty big. I tried one and it got 'stuck' causing 'foamies'. It seems I only do well with 'tic-tac' sized pills. Now I eat baked Beans to regulate my bowels - it works for me. :-)

My Dr told me to buy Align Probiotic. It has 4 different strains of bacteria & 2-4 million colonies of each bacteria. <--- Good luck figuring out what that means lol!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
