Anyone Else Have No Problems?

Recommended Posts

I keep waiting for the ball to drop, lol -

I had my RNY on Wednesday 8/29, so I am now 4 days out. Surgery went easy as pie, and the nurses on the Bariatric unit even kept saying they couldn't believe how great I looked - one even made a "speed demon" comment about my laps around the unit =P

I have had no nausea, very very minimal pain, pretty good energy- (I sat through 6 hours of vocal rehearsal today for the show I am stage managing!) Only the slightest twinge in my one medium-sized incision when I sit up in bed, and I've been able to sleep on my sides since I came home 2 days post-op, and can also lay on my stomach.

Only on liquids so far, but have not had any issues there whatsoever - hot, cold, ice pops, tea, crystal light, Water - tolerating all just fine, no discomfort, and no problems getting in my recommended amounts.

It CAN'T be this easy!! I'm getting nervous now that something's going to go haywire...

Nothing necessarily will happen. At 4 days out I was doing fine and dandy myself but, I ran into issues at about two weeks with an infection in one incision. Other than that I've been good with eating and drinking.

Sound like you are doing so well, keep up the good work. There are still sooooo many things that can go wrong down the road. Even though you are feeling great don't push yourself, take the time to heal, rest, and ease your body into this totally new thing. I pushed myself a bit by going back to work the following week becaue I felt so good but I was very tired. Please take the time to heal and rest your body needs it.

My surgery was June 21 so about 9.5 weeks ago. Not one problem but I also felt like you...just waiting. I did have some pain once when I ate a little too fast but otherwise fine. I hope this continues for you too :)

I'm in the same boat as you are. I'm 11 days post op. I can't believe how great I'm doing not to mention feel. It's so nice to be able to sleep on my side and stomach. Only in a hospital bed can I truly sleep on my back. At home not to so much. I'm glad i'm not the only one who hasn't had any problems. :D :D

My sx was 6/25/12. I had no issues either other than back to the er for dehydration on 7/3/12. I did eat a boiled egg too fast one day about 4wks out. It just sat there and wouldnt go up or down. Otherwise, I've been great, too. No dumping/vomiting/nausea. I didnt even have incisional pain........however beware of gas pain. They were horrible.

Finally! Lol - just a little something that proves to me I didn't just dream up this whole thing... =P

Finished off a Protein shake (hearty one - with milk, banana, and pb blended in) a little too quickly, and have had a very distinctly uncomfortable *full* feeling for the past 5 minutes or so.

Reminds me of post-thanksgiving dinner where you need to go lay down, and are kind of half contemplating whether you should try to vomit. Where you wonder "How the hell could I let myself eat that much??"

Well, now I know what it feels like with the pouch! It's already passing, but it's a good reminder that slow and steady... and that it SUCKS to feel overfull!

:)

Ditto for me. I was shocked at how little post-op pain I had. In fact, so were the nurses. They kept asking me if I needed anything for pain and I kept saying I really feel fine. I'm not saying that there was absolutely no discomfort at all but it really was minimal and I never used the morphine pump that was all hooked up. Amazing how far they have come with this surgery!

Glad to hear! I, too have not had any problems and keep waiting for the bottom to fall out. Now I can relax knowing it is not unusual and concentrate on losing weight .

I am almost 6 weeks post op and have had no problems. I ate some scrambled eggs once and felt too full for almost an hour. I do find myself thinking about when the ball will drop, but then remind myself, if I stick to the plan it shouldn't! =)

First off, congrats on the no pain!!! Woo-hoo!

I have read where many women who have had this surgery, as well as having had a Cesarean Section, compare them and say the Cesarean was more painful. I have had a C-Sec and much like you were, was told to "slow down", "take it easy" and "stop with the laps around the maternity ward". LOL So I hope that my surgery goes just as easy as yours!

PS. During my C-sec, the nurses prepped for additional blood loss and had 2 anesthesiologists in the room...They said that us red-heads bleed more and need more anesthesia than the rest of the population. Did they do anything special in the OR for your surgery?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
