Thanks guys for sharing your stories. My surgery is slated for Tuesday, Aug. 14 and I am so glad to have found this website. If there is anyone in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, would love hearing from ya!

Thanks again! Look forward to future chats! Let the new life begin...

As the title suggests, this is my first post and response to this forum. I live in Texarkana and will have my Lap-Band surgery here next Wednesday.

I feel excited, nervous, scared, tired (and a few other emotions) with the upcoming procedure and lifestyle change. I hope this will give me the help I need.

I am doing this for health and lifestyle reasons. I want to lose weight to be more healthy for myself and my children. I want to feel like playing with them instead of tired all the time. I want to have my youngest son stop calling me "Big Daddy"...

I'll post more later...

THJ

8/1/07 255lbs.

5'8"

to be banded 8/15/07

goal 175lbs.

....."get in, sit down, buckle up and HOLD ON".....

PostBand is the Ride of our Lives!!!!

I'm off CPAP after 10 long years, off insulin after 15 (200 units!!), off nearly ALL meds after the handful bid since the late Reagan period....

Whatever the costs, whatever the fear, whatever the sweaty anxiety and nightsweats about the 'what if' factor.....

BANDING saved my life!!!

Hi Jack, I am having trouble getting my band sized right. Last week I was so tight that I could not get anything down, after jsut a .5 cc de-fill I can eat almost anything as long as I chew well.

Did you ever go through this? I plan to have a 1/4 cc put back in but I am not sure it will help.

What is it like when you have the band right, do you PB at all? I am having trouble knowing when I should stop eating.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Dave

Jack's not alone. I was on 100 iu of insulin (Lantus) daily, 10 mcg Byetta twice a day and 1000 mg Metformin twice a day. I was banded on 5/16 and I'm off all diabetes meds. Hang in there...

hey Ted.. I've read most of your posts since before you went to Mexico..Just wondering how everything went..and when you need fills do you go back to Mexico.. Your weight loss meter doesn't seem to have moved much in a while..Thought maybe something was wrong with it..Also..there was another guy who went at the same time as you to Mexico..have you heard from him , and how is he doing?

I'm going to have to self pay..and saving 10k is real important to me and my family. Just worried about the fills...I live in Georgia..so traveling to Mexico all the time is out of the question..Does the doctor you used have a network of Doctors in the states that will do fills for him...? Thanks if you can answer these questions..

Hey Sleepybudman,

I'm doing great, I'm losing inches faster then pounds..I think I have to portion my food a little better then I am and the pounds will start catching up to the inches..All people are different and lose at different rates, I started out fast and then stopped and restarted again. The other guys in the group ( the same day banding( are doing good, we all lost around 60-80lbs each. The other guys had done the pre-op diet and lost some of the weight then, I did not have to do it. I'm trying to lose weight a little slower, because I don't want that extra skin thing going on. Before I started I was wearing size 48 size paints, now , its 44-42 and from XXXL shorts to XXL-XL shirts. I only have had one fill, and I don't think I'll need another for a long time(I hope)but I got my fill here in the states. Dr. Kuri will give info on the places here to get your fills at. Dr. Kuri would like the fist fill to be done there in Mexico, but meny don't have the time or money to make the trip back to Mexico. I live in Oregon and got my fill here for about $100. Good luck where ever you go !!! Ted

I agree 100% with the learn when to stop. I have learned to use a salad plate, put my meal on the plate, eat slow and when it's gone, I'm done. When eating out, get a take home box as soon as your meal arrives and put all but what your going to eat in the box and quit when your done.

I did real well doing Atkins a few years back (5 years ago). The only problem, looking back, was I ate way too big of portions. I am doing kind of a "Mini Atkins" now, but I allow myself to eat a couple apricots or a nectorine when I pass our "orchard". Peaches and Italian prunes are next to ripen.

Hey.........my name is Jay from Phoenix. I was 383 and a now am 358 and I am scheduled for surgery 8/16. My doc put me on a Protein Shake (huh) diet that I've been on for a week and still 1 week to go before surgery. I've been told by other bandsters that some docs don't require the shakes and allow real food up to the day before, aka "the last meal". What was the case for your surgery/doc?

Thanks.....Jay

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
