The group is definitely still on. I started it when there were only very few of us in here so it sort of died down. As a matter of fact I haven't seen FLJeepgirl here for so long. She was great...I hope she comes back. Anyway...my surgery now has a date...6/6. I'm going to need all the help and support for sure and I'm here for you too :)

I actually think I was hungry...3 pm (long after lunch and hungry hit me)...Thanks for the ideas :-) those are some good pointers. I've tried sugary food/drink in the past month and a half (Gatoraide, PB, chocolate Milk - another craving about a week ago) and I found that I do not dump. I think this is a blessing and a curse. My surgeon told me that I wouldn't...although his diet isn't as strict as some. He doesn't believe in complete sugar and fat free foods...says we need some in our diet for our digestive system to operate properly. So I try to watch what I eat, but every now and then do "splurge" on small portion of something carb/sugar. I also don't have Constipation (which most Rny patients have). I'm consistantly losing and don't have bad reactions to food...

Of course every doctor is different and everyone should follow his/her surgeon's instructions. My surgeon has been doing this for over 20 years and I trust his judgement...I've found in the past when I don't give into a small craving I ended up binge eating and falling completely off the wagon.

Thank you so much for your support...I'm looking forward to some yummy recipes!

Hi Leslie! I keep a supply of Snacks on hand just about everywhere I go. fruit, nuts of all kinds, turkey Jerky, flavored rice cakes, pretzels, some trail mixes and anything else that I can find that is low in calories and sugar. I love fishing and camping and some of these are always with me. I even take them in my car if I know I'm going to be away for an extended period of time doing shopping or whatever. I measure out portions of things like nuts and put them in baggies or those small plastic containers you can get at the store. Some like the rice cakes are already in bags. And of course the fruit really doesn't require a container. I also take a thermos of coffee and I keep it filled. Low in calories, filling and helps with my fluids requirement. I love chocolate so I almost always have a Pure Protein deluxe chocolate bar near by - they taste fantastic and 20g or protein to boot! I think cravings are just a part of life - and always will be. But as long as I have healthy alternatives on hand, it really isn't too hard to stay away from the vending machines!

I had my surgery 11/30. Within the past few weeks I have been hungry. Its weird. Then I go through spells I don't want to eat which are bad for me because I get very dizzy and week. I crave used to crave for cheetos now it's beanitos with hummus. Yet. Lately, I am very hungry. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I havent moved on the scale in about 2/3 weeks. I am so scared to gain it back.

I was doing reading (my date is June 7) and I read that at 6 months your appetite comes back with a roar! I found sobethjbh where a sr tells you to Water load in between meals to make you not as hungry and also to eat Protein veg then fruit at every meal because that combo stats in your stomach longer. I don't have the info on me but if you want me to find it and post I can do that. But I've never done it so can't guarantee it works

Hello Pug and odie,

It's my understanding that stalls do happen and it seems that around 5-6 months folks seem to have it happen. My provider and nutritionist say if it lasts more than 3 weeks to get an appointment to see the nutritionist. They can help with ideas to break through that plateau.

I'm new to this ap I had my surgery 11/29. I just hit my 6 month mark and it seems like my appetite has come back also. My dr also told me to drink more. He also suggested high Protein Snacks like nuts and hard boiled eggs. Snacking is so hard for me lately.

My hair started falling out also so I started to eat extra Protein. The good thing was my hairdresser said i have a lot of regrowth so it is growing back. Try eating nuts they are a good source of protein too.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
