Pain on left side

Recommended Posts

Surgery was 8 days ago, no complications. I know some soreness is expected but my left side is killing me! Its a dull stabbing pain constantly but then when I breath it hurts even worse! Is this normal? Does it go on for awhile?

It gets better. Many surgeons make the largest cut right there, so the muscle and other tissues are healing. Give it time. Remember, you basically got stabbed in the side by a very sharp tool.

It's my understanding that the incision that's giving you the most pain is the one they pulled your stomach through, then put it back through after reducing its size.

It will feel much better in a few weeks. I used a small pillow for support when lying on my side.

Actually, the part they remove is just pulled out...not put back in. They use a special type of staple gun, and they segment off most of the stomach, then pull that through the incision. The rest is your "sleeve."

I have had increased pain on the left side. I'm 4 weeks out and it has slowly gotten better. Heating pads help

I'm day 8, too. Had pain on my left had side, exactly the same as yours. I find if you don't jiggle around too much, or stretch yourself out too far - particularly if you're laying on your front, it eases off. Don't panic, we're in the same boat and I have every belief that it's getting better every day... Keep at it :)

It could be gas, or it could be Constipation from the pain medication?

I posted something similar earlier today... My left side is sore but my right doesn't hurt at all... Trying to sleep has been difficult on the side... Some days are better than others right now... I have faith it will get better since we all seem to be having this problem...

Same thing happened to me and I freaked! Thought I had a leak and went to see my surgeon. Turns out it was gas and he told me to lay off the pain meds... Yep a little embarrassing.

They pulled my stomach out on the right side. The left side was my drain. Pain goes away fast. I am 5 weeks out and down 35lbs.. Feel great.

Just dont really eat. Maybe a few bites if chicken/fish or a cheese stick.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
