I too am dreading lose skin, Im 26 but Ive been big most of my life - Ill definitely have it on my stomach but I also have stretch marks on my arms and inner thighs - I guess that means it will be lose, doesnt it? Any way of reducing it? Im putting bio oil on every day and plan on doing more weights and toning ...

I was just bandeed on 1/19 and am 38 years old. I have been overweight all my life and was actually heavier at age 21 than I was on my surgery day. I wish I had had the lapband option at 21 or even 30. I agree with the others, it's a way to be proactive. I am glad I made the decision to do it even at 38 because it is never too late. My mom and a few other family members couldn't understand why I just couldn't lose weight without the band and I was asked why I was "torturing myself". They just don't understand. Now three months later and 31 pounds less, my mom sees the difference and is a great supporter.

I began inquiring about surgery in Feb. 2007 and my insurance denied my procedure a week ago. I am in the processing of resubmitting and I pray that they will approve me. I really hope to be in surgery sometime next month. Being a college student, summer is the best time for such a procedure. I just can't wait any longer. Like the rest of you, I am tired of being overweight. I also have to deal with PCOS and IR which makes losing weight nearly impossible. I am beinging a Preop diet of Protein Shakes and lean cuisines. Hopefully this will make me lose enough weight before surgery. I would love to here from more of you about your experiences.

Awaiting approval.

For those of you in school, have you told your friends and classmates? I don't really want to tell anybody that I am going to have this procedure. I am not ashamed, I just don't want to deal with people judging me. I know that once I have the surgery and get back to school in the fall, my friends are going to notice. Any suggestions or experiences that can help?

jfran- I just finished college, but I have told everyone and anyone. My only concern pre-band was that they'd talk about GB and try to talk me into getting that, since no one has heard of lap-band. I'm past that now luckily!!

Everyone I work with and friends are all happy for me, and the only negative thing now is when we go out to eat, everyone looks at me like I'm a sick puppy because I'm not eating.. or I'm eating the broth of Soup (still on liquids). That bothers me, but for the most part it's all good! Good luck with your approval!! :))

Hey Im 21 to... I just got banded on the 19/04/07. I dont see it as giving up... I have tried every diet and fitness programme there is and i just put more weight on in the end. I think getting a lap band is just a tool to help me to get healthier and slim. You still gota put an effort in to loose all the weight you just getting a bit of a helping hand with having a lap band.

:)

I'm 27, so I guess I'm still young. Well, young-ish. I haven't been banded yet, but I'm hoping to get it done in May or June.

There are so many other amazing things you can experience in college. Not being able to get stupid with your buddies is fleeting -- I don't remember a SINGLE party from my college years, and not just because I was drunk. They really didn't matter. What mattered the most was the deep friendships that I made, the great things I learned, and the amazing places I traveled to. Your longterm health and overall happiness and well-being are so much more important than being able to buzz at a frat party.

I dont know why but my doc is being a pr*ck about my fills! He said my weight loss is good- which to me its not- and then he makes me wait 6 weeks in between each fill! Thats fine and dandy but my first fill was 1 cc and I got one yesterday (6 weeks later) and he gives me .5 cc!!!!!!! im never going to get anywhere!

If your doctor won't fill you, find another doctor..

try going to yahoo and searching "fill centers usa" and see if they have any in your town/state.

as for an update on my progress.. kinda in a rutt right now.. :fish:

Try going on the inamed website to find a fill doctor. my doc says that he won't do a fill if I am loosing 1-2 pounds a week. So I could go back each time and have just lost 4 pounds and he said yes.

Part of me was not okay with this but then again i do not want to have to have plastic surgery for the droopy spots. So if that is what he says so be it.

I hope this helps?

Jenn

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
