Good Luck with the Weekend Magnolia. What exactly is your pre op diet?? I have read so many differant ones on here. I guess it depends on which DR?

Hello Everyone. I am actually a feb 27th banster and thought that if y'all didn't mind, after my surgery I could give you a 'blow by blow' account since y'all all are up next. It's kind of neat to be at the end of the month 'cause I have everyone elses stuff to read so I thought I could pass on mine too.

I'm about 5 days pre and I'm excited, scared, happy anxious. I'm afraid the day before I may be in tears all day. I'm having trouble picturing that I will ever be under 300 little long 200. weird weird weird. It's very surreal right now.

thanks,

Tracy

Hello again to everyone. My surgery is scheduled for March 12th. I am to start my pre-op diet on March 2nd. 10 days of liquids/liquid Protein. I have not been very fond of any of the Protein Drinks out there. The shakes are nasty and too sweet... If I can smell the vitamin/iron in the the stuff, it gags me.. even worse when I can taste it.... I even went and bought some of the non flavored Unjury protein... unflavored...yes, but still smells and taste like vitamins..... uuuggghh!! The only drink I have found that I can even tolerate, not sure about for 10 straight days though, is the Isopure zero carb drinks.. they have a variety of fruit flavored drinks... like a juice/koolaid type drink already premixed in glass bottles... they have 40g of protein and my dr only requires 20 per day... I am so nervous about surgery itself and if I am unable to follow the pre-op just right, I am a fraid I will not shrink my liver appropriately for the surgery and cause a problem.... I know that this is why we have the 10 day pre-op diet... it has been explained to me .... I understadn the importancve, but I also have no will power and I too have been planning multitudes of last suppers......... not even hungry but I act like I am.

My pre-op diet is two weeks of slim-fast optima (5 per day) and plain veggies for lunch/dinner...weekend will be challenging since I will be away and at 4 different dinners...I thnk I am going to take Tracy's advice and look at the Feb banders to see what's up with them since my date is the beginning of March (the 5th)

So I did my Upper GI thing today and it was weird but not as bad as I thought. They basically used some kind of xray machine to take pictures of my stomach. I had to drink a thick nasty chalky liquid so they could see how it went down, I had to drink a fizzy drink and was told not to burp....they needed the air in there, and then I had to swallow a pill. It was funny watching the pill drop down into my stomach. :)

Psych eval was easy, nutrition consult was fine...nothing I haven't already learned. Had a teaching appt with the nurse...again, mostly what I already knew. She told me that my surgeon doesn't require all of his patients to go on a liquid diet, and I'm one of the lucky ones that doesn't have to. It all seemed really easy. Hmmmm.......too easy with my luck. :(

NINE MORE DAYS!

I'm about a week and a half out. On one hand I'm so excited I can hardly stand it ... on the other hand it makes me ill to even think about it.

I think I'm generally a fairly calm, non-dramatic person, but this is killing me.

Am I nervous about the actual surgery, about doing it in Mexico, about how this will affect my relationship with my boyfriend, about the fact that I'm not telling my family, about abandoning work for a week???

I need to do deep breathing exercises or something.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
