cramping contractions after every sip of liquid

Recommended Posts

I'm in the hospital day 3 after surgery. I'm being given broth and crystal light ..the cramps are like contractions except in my esphoagus. Its really painful. The nurses are giving me platonics to treat my pain but its not working. My Dr cant be reached when I call his office. Every extention is invalid. Has this happened to you? Should I do my shakes instead? I'm afraid to be discharged and suffer at home.

first of all, have your nurse page your doctor through his office exchange. There is ALWAYS someone on-call for post op surgical patients, if they are having an issue. Your surgeon or an associate will also round on you daily, so you could ask him then.

what are platonicx? Do you mean Protonix?

Yes its called protonix..their lines were down ..every extention was invalid and it would say "exiting system goodbye" I had my brother deliver a note for me..2 women called me promising me the Dr will come after business hours.

Why are you still in three days post op? Has your surgeon rounded to see you at all? That seems very odd to me. My surgeon gave me his personal cell number while I was in the hospital.

I'm sorry you are in pain. Perhaps try liquids that are room temperature instead of hot or cold. Too cold makes my stomach feel like it's spasming.

I had spasms in my stomach the first day on liquids. I was told it was normal.

I have had stomach cramps on and off since I had surgery on 9-10. It's really bad with plain Water. My doc wrote me a script for Levsin also known as Hycosamine. Its for stomach cramps, melts in your mouth and tastes like mint. It helps a huge amount....takes the cramps away. Also, I have Ativan for a back up for stomach cramps Good luck

I am 9 days out. I stayed in for 3 days because I couldn't hold down anything. Then went home for a day to return to hospital for a read mission for dehydration. The first 8 days were to true. I felt the pain would never end. When we suffer it is hard to see beyond pain. Pain is all consuming. But we are gifted with imagination and here is where you need to us it. Speak your WLS dreams out loud. List the reasons you wanted to live a different life. List the positive (things to come). List the negative things ( all that you hate about being fat and how it limits your life). And do this over and over and over and over and over and eventually you will survive what feels impossible to survive and you will soar!!!

I had those for the first two weeks or so, they got better as I healed. Just make sure to do small sips. It still happens if I take take big of a gulp.

Ditto....had the same problem. My belly didn't like the acid of Crystal Light, or anything sour or tart. It didn't like too sweet, it like warn or room temperature. No ice! Just take small sips...it gets better!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
