What was your 6 month pre-op/insurance required diet like?

Recommended Posts

My insurance requires that I be on a supervised diet for the next 6 months. I'm okay with that, it gives me time to learn more and organize other parts of my life before the surgery.

But I'm curious on what kind of diets people were put on for those 6 months. How did it work? Was it hard for you?mdid you lose a lot of weight? Anything would be great!

Thanks!

Kim

I was put on a low carb diet..it was mostly based on Atkins. My nutritionist started me off at 40g of carbs a day...and then after 3 months she switched me to 20g of carbs. The diet was easy to follow..I was able to eat what I liked minus the bread and tortillas. I wasn't allowed to eat fruit or cereal..but it didn't really phase me..I was able to train my mind and lose a lot of weight. My starting weight was 305 I'm down to 231...:) best of luck to you!!! My surgery is this coming Tuesday!!!

I worked with my PCP on my six month diet. I was on 1500 calories per day, also eating low fat and high Fiber. I also worked slowly up to getting 30 minutes of cardio five days per week.

I stayed on the diet with the exception of falling completely off the wagon approximately one day per month and for one entire month. Whoops!

I lost 28 lbs on the diet. If I hadn't had that horrible month, it would have been a lot more, as I gained 12 lbs during that one month. :o :o :o

I know the feeling. Those bad months/years is what got me into this problem lol.

Hi I felt the same way you did, I just wanted it done, I have to do a 6 month weight management also for my insurance. I was placed on a 1500 calorie per day , informed that they want me to loose 20 pounds, and to workout. I have been on this plan for almost two months and I have began to loose weight. I am confident by Jan 2014 when my 6 months is up I should be down the pounds and hopefully more.

I'm kinda nervous about the 7 month diet because counting calories has always been hard for me.

I was put on a six month pre op diet but, I was told to just maintain my current weight and start by drinking Protein Shakes for Breakfast (which works out really well), now I need to work myself up to lunch shakes also!!! I am dreading the liquid diet but, I guess I will find out if I need to actually do it when I get closer.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
