How are you HoosierMom?

I am doing well. Surgery wasn't as bad as I thought. I was a little nauseated but I think that was from the pain meds. I'm back at the Marriott now. Are you pre or post op?

No I only stayed one night. Surgery was Friday. Are you going to Dr. Ariel Ortiz also? He is very good. I'm very pleased with the whole process.

Well I am going to stay 5 nights all together. I came in a day early and going to leave a day late. I was more nervous about traveling than the surgery. It really has not been scary at all. Everyone is real nice. Also if you go alone there is usually someone you meet that is alone too. Last night we got out and walked around the hotel a little. Then we got tired so we went our separate ways and ordered room service broth. The pain has been bearable. It kinda comes and goes. This morning I feel real good. Just took a shower. We have to go back to the hospital today. I think they are going to take the drain tube out. Can't wait for that. Let me know if you have any questions. I would be happy to answer them.

So good to hear your doing so well. I've had a few surgeries thru the years I always do very well. And I have a high tolerance for pain. My daughter and I are having sleeve the same day. Do you have five incisions? Thanks. I'm from columbus. Where are you from?

Well I didn't get the drain out. That will be tomorrow. It is still going well. I think you and your daughter will be fine. I'm not sure I have a high tolerance but it has been manageable. It's not easy but it's not that bad either. I would do it again. Yes I have five incisions. They really have not hurt at all. The one with the drain tube is a little annoying is all. I do have the gas pain and the pain when I swallow but it still has not been that bad. I'm from southern Indiana. Good luck to you and your daughter!

HoosierMom how are you doing?

Just got home! I'm doing well. A little sore but not too bad. Walked a lot in the Dallas airport which I needed to do. Found a place that had chicken noodle Soup and drank the broth. It was so good. I was starting to feel a little weak from traveling. I think you and your daughter will do fine. Remind me when it gets closer to the 11th and I'll pray for you guys. Take care!

Yes flying wasn't too bad. I didn't get a wheel chair cuz I figured I needed to walk. When we flew into Dallas we landed at an opposite gate from my connecting flight. That was quite a bit of walking even with the sky walk train. I carried on my bag down there but checked it on the way home. I would suggest you guys do the same. It was nice not having to drag that around. Plus I didn't want to ask someone to put it in the overhead for me. It will be nice that you guys will have each other. When I crossed the border each time I was by myself. I met ppl at the center and hotel but somehow both times crossing the border I was alone. I would've liked having someone with me cuz that was a little unnerving. I think if they hadn't changed the rules about us getting out of the vehicle and going inside the building and getting checked then meeting the driver on the other side I wouldn't have been so nervous. I just hated being alone. But since you and your daughter will be together I really do not think you will be as nervous as I was.

Thanks. That's good to know. My husband is going with us. That, would be a bit unnerving. Yea I worry about the connecting flight too. I don't want to get a wheel chair either. I have fibromyalgia and when I flare up bad I work hard at not walking like I'm in pain. Lol. I try to add a little arm swag to make it look like I'm just strutin my stuff. Haha. So no wheel chair for me. How haventhe gas pains been? That seems to be the worst complaint.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
