Starting my first fast today on the 5.2 Diet Plan! Questions.

Hello Vets!

Today is my first fast day for the 5.2 diet plan. So, only 500 calories for fast days and 1200 to 1500 for the feast days? Right?? I was wondering if it is ok to have coffee?

I'm so excited to try this diet and new way of eating. I'm so ready to get to goal and I'm praying that this will at least get me started in the right direction. I've gained 3 pounds recently and now am back up to 170 and I'm scared to death. I realize that weight flutuates but also I've not been doing as well as before and I can eat more usual. I know it is up to me to keep this weight off! I never want to go back! NEVER! I've been back and forth to many time in my life.

OK, so again I'm very excited to start this plan and any advice or encouragement is appreciated! Love you guys!!

Lisa I got the request and I'll approve you as soon as I can :)

I will send you a pm when it's approved :)

Yay! Thank you!

Thanks! Looks like you work out quite a bit' date=' I do too. I was wondering how this will work with the calories. Do you subtract the exercise calories from your daily intake and eat more? I am concerned that my workouts may be compromised from not eating enough. This is why I didn't completely stick to the 5:2 plan in the past. Thankfully I am not one of those who are carb sensitive (don't hate me :)). I don't go crazy with carbs but I don't need to keep them low to lose weight or maintain.[/quote']

No, you don't subtract the cals gained from exercise on your fast days. That's what helps burn more fat. On feast days, it's your option

I rarely go 18 hours. I usually have a snack of 100 calorie cocoa dusted almonds around 9 pm and I usually try to eat at 11 am . I feel very deprived if I don't get my evening snack even on fast days.

Did y'all see the spot on Dr Oz today talking about how fasting is so great for weight loss & general health? I only caught the last 30 seconds or so. He wanted everyone to fast every day from 8 pm until 8 am.

I dvr his show so I can watch it if something looks interesting. I'll have to check it out.

I will. I'll check it out later today when I have some time to watch it. His show drives me crazy because every single day he's talking about another way to lose weight or different vitamins to take.

Today is my fast day and I'm going to workout with my trainer in a few minutes. I'll let you know how it goes...

I watched the Oz show from yesterday and there was not anything on there about fasting to lose weight.

I worked out with my trainer this morning on an empty stomach. I had a cup of green tea. The workout went great. It was a hard cardio workout. I felt fine during and after the workout. The only thing I noticed that might be different is that I was starving at 4:00. I had a protein drink around 3:00. I'm feeling fine now.

Was it the morning or afternoon one? The one I saw was morning time.

Oh, ok...I dvr the afternoon one. The morning one was probably a rerun.

Ready for my next fast tomorrow! I'm a little concerned though. I'm doing well on my fast days and eating between 1200 to 1400 calories on non fast days. Not really going down though. I will lose on fast days then go back up. Very frustrating but I'm not giving up. I have a terrible back and the only exercise I can do is walk. I need surgery and I'm trying not to have that done. Maybe the non workouts is why I can't lose anymore. Also, I was thinking that my thyroid levels may be off. It is time to get it checked again. I do that on October 3rd. Usually, if the levels are off, I won't lose or gain. So that seems to be where I am. MAN! I just want to get to goal!!!!!

Okay, here is my track record with 5:2. I would lose 1-2 pounds by end of second fast day. Bounce up a pound or so during my next door feast days then bounce back down next fast and Hold that weight. Then start over at the new low over the next week or so. That happened over and over til I had lost 27 pounds. :). Took me 3 months. And I've held that since 9/8. Still doing 5:2 and will hopefully lose another 4-5 pounds below my goal.

Good luck with the thyroid stuff. That is a major hassle to keep regulated. My friend is struggling with same issue.

Yeppers down up down...

And sometimes it actually stays down!

Then I try for the next lower numbers.

I don't lose every week but I know this is for me because I feel better :)

Take it easy, its too early to see what will happen. Enjoy your life, and eat well. Follow the plan.

I've lost 14 lbs. I am beyond excited. I had lost all hope of losing my regain. I was losing and regaining the same 2 lbs for a year.

Yay 5:2!
