Recommended Posts

Fasting again today. I lost only a pound last Friday. Back to my regular schedule of Monday's and Thursdays.

I sent a request for the 5.2 forum. Will I be able to join next week?? :)

Lisa I got the request and I'll approve you as soon as I can :)

I will send you a pm when it's approved :)

Thanks! Looks like you work out quite a bit' date=' I do too. I was wondering how this will work with the calories. Do you subtract the exercise calories from your daily intake and eat more? I am concerned that my workouts may be compromised from not eating enough. This is why I didn't completely stick to the 5:2 plan in the past. Thankfully I am not one of those who are carb sensitive (don't hate me :)). I don't go crazy with carbs but I don't need to keep them low to lose weight or maintain.[/quote']

No, you don't subtract the cals gained from exercise on your fast days. That's what helps burn more fat. On feast days, it's your option

I rarely go 18 hours. I usually have a snack of 100 calorie cocoa dusted almonds around 9 pm and I usually try to eat at 11 am . I feel very deprived if I don't get my evening snack even on fast days.

Did y'all see the spot on Dr Oz today talking about how fasting is so great for weight loss & general health? I only caught the last 30 seconds or so. He wanted everyone to fast every day from 8 pm until 8 am.

I will. I'll check it out later today when I have some time to watch it. His show drives me crazy because every single day he's talking about another way to lose weight or different Vitamins to take.

Today is my fast day and I'm going to workout with my trainer in a few minutes. I'll let you know how it goes...

Please let me know what I missed! :)

I watched the Oz show from yesterday and there was not anything on there about fasting to lose weight.

I worked out with my trainer this morning on an empty stomach. I had a cup of green tea. The workout went great. It was a hard cardio workout. I felt fine during and after the workout. The only thing I noticed that might be different is that I was starving at 4:00. I had a Protein Drink around 3:00. I'm feeling fine now.

Ready for my next fast tomorrow! I'm a little concerned though. I'm doing well on my fast days and eating between 1200 to 1400 calories on non fast days. Not really going down though. I will lose on fast days then go back up. Very frustrating but I'm not giving up. I have a terrible back and the only exercise I can do is walk. I need surgery and I'm trying not to have that done. Maybe the non workouts is why I can't lose anymore. Also, I was thinking that my thyroid levels may be off. It is time to get it checked again. I do that on October 3rd. Usually, if the levels are off, I won't lose or gain. So that seems to be where I am. MAN! I just want to get to goal!!!!!

Okay, here is my track record with 5:2. I would lose 1-2 pounds by end of second fast day. Bounce up a pound or so during my next door feast days then bounce back down next fast and Hold that weight. Then start over at the new low over the next week or so. That happened over and over til I had lost 27 pounds. :). Took me 3 months. And I've held that since 9/8. Still doing 5:2 and will hopefully lose another 4-5 pounds below my goal.

Good luck with the thyroid stuff. That is a major hassle to keep regulated. My friend is struggling with same issue.

Yeppers down up down...

And sometimes it actually stays down!

Then I try for the next lower numbers.

I don't lose every week but I know this is for me because I feel better :)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
