100 mile challenge

Howdy fitness freaks. Today marks the 30 day countdown till my long awaited TT surgery. Damn I'm excited. To Celebrate, I'm going to spend the next 30 days doing something I've never done before.....I'm going to run 100 miles in the next 30 days. Certainly other people have done it...even people on this forum have done it. But it will be my biggest monthly total to date. I never ran a step voluntarily until last year. Since then, my life and body have changed so much.....I can't imagine not having this great gift I've found. To me running is like a newly found super power....one that I never thought I'd have.

So I'm going to run 100 miles total between now and my surgery date of 9/30. If anyone wants to join me...walk, run, hike, bike .........whatever you can do.

BTW Laura-Ven has agreed to do the 100 miles with me.....so I'd appreciate y'all's help in making sure she does it. She needs your "motivation".

7 miles today gives me a total of 60 after 12 days. I did start 2 days early I believe.

Ran in my new running shoes today. These are even more minimal than the vibrams. These are Zem Gear Terra Ninjas. And yes, that is a size 14 shoe rolled up in my hand. These are not for tenderfeet.

On amazon.com

And yes....quite comfy. And much easier to get on than the vibrams.

Ah, got it.

Glad to hear they are comfy. They still look freaky. Are there two toes put in that first part or is that just for your big toe?

Today I walked 1.43 miles and rode 3.15 on my bike for a total of 4.58 today! My total now is: 24.75. I'm so glad for this challenge! Thank you all for being so inspirational...

Today I could only get 1 mile in so total is 16.

My biggest day ever! 8.59 miles total of 45.79 miles! I'm going to really do this! What an amazing NSV! Thanks to Bean for challenging me!

1 mile is better than none. Great job!

2.5 yesterday. Not great but it's a plus! Total 40.5 since 9-2

Just did a 45min spin class. Holy crap! Ok now I know how much more work I have to do in terms of getting in shape but also, how far I've come. I tried spin class over a year ago when I was still 300+ and it nearly killed me. This time I could almost keep up with the skinny b$&@h's! I have no idea how many miles that translates to for the challenge, though.

pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274; 4 month post-op 266.2; 5 month post-op 262.6; 6 month post-op 253.2

LOL.... Just the big toe.

I figured that was the case but that big toe "area" looks HUGE!

I usually do spin 2x a week for an hour, and our instructor varies things quite a bit. Sometimes we climb, sometimes we do rollers, sometimes it's all about endurance and other times it's about fat burn. One thing I know is WE NEVER STOP. Ever. It's a heart-pounding hour of sweat.

Even though each session is always the same, 1 hour long, I've noticed the actual miles vary from anywhere at the low end being 14 miles to the high end being 19 miles. It just depends.

And I would *love* a 45 min. class. haha...the hour is brutal. AND this instructor teaches a sat. class that is 1.5 hours...too scared to try it. Been trying to work up to it and I want to try it someday... ;)

MG2 I aspire to make thru an hour spin class! How do you calculate the miles?

Oh it's on the digital display on the bike. It gives us RPM (which is our speed), WATTS (which is our effort) Kcals (burned supposedly but it doesn't ask us for height/weight/age etc. so the Kcals are often lower than what we actually burn) and then of course the distance represented in miles.

The one thing that our bikes are "equipped" to tell us is our heart rate but if you don't have a wireless monitor then it won't actually give those results.
