Hi all............ I havernt disappeared Susannah..... still here and determined as ever to be banded.

Sometimes i wish i didnt mention to people outside this group that im going to get banded. I guess im getting so excited with my initial consult with Dr Nottle next monday and appointments next wednesday with the Physician and Dietician , that i seem to mention it to anyone thats around me. I then get mainly negative comments:

-why would you do that, its very drastic

- and everyone knows someone thats been banded and non seem to be successful........... or............ had heaps of problems

I just for once want to here positive things.............. I know i'll most probably have pain post-op and may have a few problems down the track but im so determined and looking forward to introducing myself to that thin person inside me .............. im sure she's really cool and we'll become great buddies........... she's 5'6, blonde, tanned and THIN

I agree Bronnie, it is amazing the comments I get when I tell people I am going to be banded, someone said yesterday, " That's only for really big people isn't it? You're not that big!!!"

Well I am 45 Kg (Megan Gale) overweight and really don't wan't to carry Megan around any longer!!! ;)

Though the people I know well and are the closest too me understand that this weight has been my issue all my life and are very supportive.

Bronnie, I was surprised about how quickly everything was set in motion once I saw the Surgeon, so make sure you have your pre op diet (and I for one would purchase some Tony Ferguson that Dionnem mentioned as Pina Colada sounds too good to pass up) especially to me who has been on the Optifast (Vanilla or Chocolate)option for 7 days with 7 days to go.

Dionnem where can you purchase Tony Ferguson any way?

Katrina

Megan Gale is 6ft tall, she'd be more than 45kg - my SIL is 45kg, skinny as a rake and only 5ft 1, she's a teeny tiny size 6.

Carrying Megal Gale around wouldnt be as heavy as carrying her wallet though!

Gday Girls and Mark, Meredith hot the nail right on the head, about trying to educate people re the surgery. People are always going to have opinions about things. I did this for me. I don't want to have diabetes or get a stroke.

Anybody watching the biggest loser? One of the girls decided to leave last night. One of the former contestants is coming on tonights show to try to talk her out of it. I wish them all so well. It is so hard.

It is, but you know, she was lying to herself. She kept saying "I will do this at home, I'm not running away from it" But she IS.

I found it so absolutely terrifying to think this might actually work! There was comfort in saying "I dont need the surgery, I can do this myself" telling yourself you WOULD do it but knowing you really wouldnt was kind of safe in a strange way. Like you've made the decision but dont have to face the consequences.

Deciding to have surgery and let go of my fat was a huge step - and I could never attribute my fatness to anything. I had a perfect childhood, perfect parents, perfectly functional relationships, I've never been abused or gone through any trauma or anything. Yet it was serving some purpose to me and I still dont know what that was.

So I feel for Sarah, but I agree with what Jillian did, just cut her loose and did not even try to talk her out of it. YOu have to want it badly before you can help yourself or anyone else can help you. And sadly I think there's a lot of people who do get banded who still havent managed to reach that frame of mind.

Its blunt but its the truth. I wonder what will happen when Cat speaks to her. By the way, I nearly died when I saw Cat, by golly she's a gorgeous girl!

Hi J, I think you are right that Sarah does not really seem ready or willing to get the weight off. She didn't really want to exercise either, although I can understand that at her weight it must be hard and painful.

I think if she comes back she has more of a chance of changing her life. The home environment may have contributed to her weight gain in the first place.

These girls like her and Cat ( Who looks amazing) are so lucky to have men that love them and care for them. I just figure at my weight that I can't find a man who would love me so I just hide because I fear rejection.

I would like to find a special someone, because I don't want to be alone anymore, and I would like to have a baby because the clock is ticking.

Right now it is all too hard to deal with for me. I have too much on my plate to be honest.

Hi All,

Here is the website for Tony Ferguson www.tonyferguson.com. You can buy on line or through Terry White Pharmacies though you will need to check in your area. It is great as it has gret flavours still tough to do but a little more variety always helps and you can mix up your flavour choices so you have that variety through the day.

Sussanah - "I would like to find a special someone, because I don't want to be alone anymore, and I would like to have a baby because the clock is ticking"

Your words are like a memory for me I cannot count the number of times I said that, wrote that etc. I met my husband when I weighed approx 95kg and he was a fitness freak. I had moved to Perth for 12mths (to find myself) and came back heavier than when I left but I realised how much I was missing out on by letting my weight be the issue and let him in enough to see who I really was, I fell pregnant quickly and we had a lots of ups & downs I gained more weight didin't lose it felt crappy and acted crappy. Long Long stiry short we are married with 2 great kids and I am now over 115KG, I've struggled all my life with my weight and other issues and my husband is supportive infact he can't wait for me lose it and be a happier person. My point is that no matter how big or small you are you are fundamentally the same person inside, you will meet your Mr Right when YOU are ok with YOU its not about anyone else, and you are now on your way.

Biggest Loser - I felt really angry at Sarah for giving up such a great opportunity, I understand her feelings of fear and loneliness but why sign up if you are not going to at least give it a good hard go!! So many people would love that opportunity and she walks out after less than a week!!! I hope she comes around but I did hear that someone leaves.

Hi guys,

Well I just got back from having my 3rd fill. I got another 1.5 mls so I'm up to 6.5 now. I go back in 2 weeks time to get another. I'm glad my fill Dr is happy to be agressive with the fills, but he did say that he is only that willing to do it with people who are obviously as commited as I am to my weight loss. I lost 2.8 kilos since my last fill 3 weeks ago. No bad, but I expected more because I have been working out 5 days a week and sweating like a pig while I have been doing it. Anyway hopefully I am one step closer to my sweet spot. The only down side is its too bloody hot to eat Soup for the next 24 hours. Oh well Ho hum. I'm having a bit of a down day today, my back is REALLY playing up and my GP wanted to give me the rest of the week off work to rest, but I don't really have the leave to do it, so I am just having today off. PLus he gave me a feldene (an antiinflammatory) which is nsaid which we aren't supposed to take when banded, but its Water soluble, so I'm hoping it won't do any damage. But right now, i'm not sleeping more than 4 or 5 hours a night, so I had to do something. Its a risk I know....but I don't know what else to do.

Meredith, Two kilos weight loss is terrific!:biggrin1: You are going to look fabulous in your wedding dress.:) Meredith's Wedding. Is Toni Collette coming?:biggrin1:

Dionne, It is nice to know that someone understands how I feel. Your story has inspired me. How are the Pina Colada shakes going?:biggrin1: I only had boring old chocolate and strawberry on the Optifast.< img src="https://s.bariatricpal.com/uploads/emoticons/default_smile.png" alt=":)" srcset="https://s.bariatricpal.com/uploads/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />:D

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
