STL sleeve scheduled 9/25

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I got sleeved Sept. 25, 2013 by Dr. Morales at DePaul. I have had absolutely no trouble or pain ever (I'm wondering if he really did the operation). :) I've lost only a total of about 35 pounds and that includes 10 pounds lost before but I am a grazer (just figured that out as I wasn't before). I need to stop it.

I feel so much better than I did before and even though I've lost more weight before, I never could keep it off so that's why I finally went this route. I haven't really exercised much other than a little walking as I'm too tired after work to do anything else. My new years resolution is to start walking the mall again. Used to do 4 miles a day when I lost the weight the last time and want to get back into the routine, it's just that first step.

Anyway, anyone going to the SSM New Years party on the 15th at DePaul the weight loss institute is putting on? I'll be there. Hope to see some of the forum members.

Rick

I am switching over to DePaul after a horrendous experience at Des Peres. I'm glad to see so many people are having good experiences!

For any Dr. Morales patients. How fast did the process go to get your surgery date after meeting with him and what steps did you have to take? Because I'm looking through this green binder and according to the checklist it looks like they're gonna put me on the liquid diet before my insurance request and that can't be right. I must be reading into it wrong.

Wow glad I found this thread. I was with ssm and switched to bjc bc of my job. I get sleeved tomorrow. Went through entire process with ssm tho and it didn't take long to get done. 6-7 months. Surgery tomorrow with Barnes west county.

Sweetsophia, It took 4 months from first seminar to surgery. My insurance did not require a 6 month diet first. I had a very quick and easy time of time. surgery was Aug 21, 13, I have lost 54 lbs and at a stand still now. Have been since Thanksgiving but I am not giving up and the Hair loss. Be glad when that stops and starts growing again. Good luck.

Screw that. If they make everyone do that I'll go elsewhere.

The 6 month diet, 3 month most times is a requirement by the insurance company to pay for surgery. If they're paying the majority of the bill, you have to do what they say.

What are some of the sleevers and the hair loss. I am about bald. When does it stop and when does the hair start growing back?

I started the process in August. My insurance required me to do a supervised six month diet which ended last week, so now I'm just waiting to hear back from the insurance co.

I've been going through Dr Minkin at Des Peres. My paperwork should be submitted for insurance approval tomorrow. Excited to get an answer from insurance company and a surgery date. Ready to get on with my life!

Congrats and best wishes to you. Having this surgery was the best thing I've ever done!!! Dr. Minkin was not my surgeon but he was the doctor on duty the weekend after my surgery so I met with him a couple times while in the hospital and really liked him. I've heard lots of great things about him. If you have any questions about the experience in Des Peres hospital or questions in general let me know. Good luck!!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
