I was diagnosed in March 2011. Had chemo and now I've been in remission for 2 years. I'm wondering if there are any other cancer patients or anyone else in remission having or have already had vsg after diagnosis? I read 1 post where the surgeon would not do the surgery until the 5 year mark.

I went through colon cancer in sept.2009 the dr removed a foot of my colon and I had 12 chemo. treatments.My surgery date is set for Sept.17 2013 for my sleeve.I 've been in resmission for 3yrs. and one month.I have to have a colon scope done on August 28.My surgeon never said anything about waiting 5 years afer the 28 everthing will be a go ahead.I know how hard this can be any little changes scare you to death.

Oh wow I didn't expect any responses. Especially since I posted in the wrong forum. Thank you Marlene for sharing. I went through 6 months of treatment (24 hospital treatments) with 2 added days of home infusion. Not sure how many inches removed but it was most of it. As sad as this subject is, is always helpful and hopeful to have other people in similar situations who can relate. I will pay for you as well and will stay in contact with you if that's ok? Thanks again and many blessings. Good luck with the surgery too. I can't wait for my date. I have 4 more months to go.

My father just had surgery last week. He went into remission in 2010. He's doing great and I've never heard about the five year mark either... Prayers your way.

I just finished chemotherapy May 23rd. I was on a blind study (two pills a day of a tumor blocker) and Avastin drip. It's my third round of chemo for Ovarian Cancer, initially diagnosed in 2007, 1st round of chem 2008 and 2nd & 3rd (2011 & 2012). I had to be off of Avastin for 60 days before being considered for WLS. My oncologist & PCP have both agreed to let me go forward, especially since morbid obesity contributes to many female cancers, specifically breast (which I've also had in 2002) and Ovarian.

I just had all of my physical test this past Wednesday, hopefully nothing pops up and I can move forward with cardiologist, NUT & pscy eval (all appts are already scheduled). My oncologist wants me to have the surgery ASAP just in case my cancer returns (OV cancer is very recalcitrant and insidious). So my fingers are crossed and I'm praying I get a clean bill from my tests and I can move forward. WLS doctor hopes to have all cleared for surgery by mid October.

Good luck. No way I'm waiting for 5 years...it's been almost 6 since my initial diagnosis... WLS surgeon said best option would be the sleeve because there is no malapsorption issues common to RY and no foreign apparatus in the body like the lap band. So Gastric Sleeve it is...

Jerzeygurl, Wow I'm so sorry you had to have so many treatments. Well you keep kicking cancers butt. Praying that you come back clear. There are so many so called "cancer cures". But, I do believe cannabis oil is really good. Unfortunately we cannot get it in NY. I believe you may be able to get in PA. Just a thought. I also drink warm lemon Water every morning to alkalize my liver. And milk thistle supplement. I was first diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2000 and now colon in 2011. Having this monkey on our backs is so scary. Several of my drs. suggested going in for it. Well good luck and please let me know how everything works out for you. You're in my prayers.

Btw, doctor's office called this afternoon, all my test came back just fine, now for the cardiologist on 9/4 and the NUT on 9/3--
