Surgery date, insurance so anxious.

Recommended Posts

I got a call this morning from my doctors office finally that all of my pretesting is done and they do not require any other tests. They will get back to me on Friday with a surgery date. In the meantime they will get the approval. I am 41 BMI with no other health issues. Did many of you have a problem with insurance? If so, why? I have Blue Cross Blue Shield. They were hoping to get me in by then end of September. I feel like I am waiting for my life to start. I am so excited that I can't think of anything else.

Is it Blue Cross or Blue Shield? They are not one in the same. I have Blue Shield of California, and THIPA is my network provider and they are the facility that authorize or deny any procedure. I think you should be okay, I don't think that your network provider would authorize all of you pre-op procedures if they weren't going to authorize your main procedure. Make sense? If they deny you, then it would be because you didn't do something that you were supposed to, like lose the required amount of weight before surgery. Even then, I know ppl that lost a lot less than they were told to and were still approved.

This procedure will not only save lives, it will save the insurance company a lot in claims in the long-term. They are about making a profit! Keep us updated :)

Thanks so much for replying. I have Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield. I am hoping that the Dr knew exactly what I needed to get it approved. They haven't asked me to lose anything yet. They asked that I not drop below the 40 BMI. I know this is going to be a tough road but I really can't wait.

I have Blue Cross Blue Shield (federal). Since I am trying to get surgery done ASAP (changing jobs and insurance companies) my insurance rep from the hospital said it should take up to two weeks get things approved. In the meantime she told me to start me pre-surgical diet so they can schedule me as soon as it is approved. But from what I have read on here most people with BCBS get approved in a couple days.

Aww I am so sorry, that's horrible. I really hope they gave me the right answer on the phone when they said it I should be covered. I hope to hear tomorrow when the surgery date is.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
