1st day of my 2 week pre-op diet

Recommended Posts

To me the most daunting part of this whole experience was going to be the 2 week pre-op diet. Here's the scary part. My surgery is August 26th. That means as of this morning I am starting the anxiety invoking, terrifying, I hope I can do it, I have to do it 2 week diet.

In these 2 weeks I am going to wean myself off of coffee (my taste of heaven every morning, noon and night). I plan on making it weaker and weaker by adding more fat free milk. Until it is more like milk with a splash of coffee vs. the other way around. I do self medicate in the sense that I use caffine to prevent my Migraines. For those that don't have migraines, just imagine a headache 10 times worse than a caffine withrawl headache with a sinus infection during a very stressful time on top of allergies.

I am afraid to be hungry. I get headaches when I am hungry.

I have prepared my self for this diet for weeks now. I have tried practically every bariatric Protein Drink available and have purchased the ones I like (yes, there are a few that are really, really yummy). I have stocked up on diet pop-cycles, diet fudge-cycles, crystal light, diet gatorade, fat free milk, cream of wheat, cream of rice, diet Syrup for the cream of rice and wheat, diet Jello, diet pudding, cream of Tomato Soup, cream of chicken Soup, I even bought yogurt (which I detest but gonna try anyways).

This is probably gonna be one of the hardest hurdles I'll have to jump in my life. I've got the CAN-DO attitude, I need to do this.

I would appreciate as many words of encouragement that I can get.

I'm on day 5 of my 2-week pre-op Clear liquids. Day 3 was the hardest.

You're allowed a lot of things my surgeon doesn't allow. I can have only sugar-free, caffeine-free Clear Liquids plus 4-5 Protein shakes a day. I started weaning myself off of caffeine & carbonated sodas right after my first visit in April & have been completely off of them for over a month. I don't miss them any more.

YOU CAN DO THIS!! I am scheduled for surgery 9/16 so i will soon be starting my pre op diet as well. I too get Migraines and that has been a big concern for me as far as my eating and how to medicate them if i am to get one.

2 weeks out of your life is nothing!! You got this girl!! Please keep us updated on your progress, :)

Broths -- drink broths. You need the salt and they will give you an energy lift.

Good luck on your journey. It's going to be amazing!

Thanks for the encouragement. I am now starting day 3 and I am happy to say......so far so good. As of this morning I am down 5 lbs. My goal for these 2 weeks is to lose another pants size. To my amazement, one of the girls at work noticed my jeans were getting "baggy in the butt". They were brand new jeans that I've only had for a couple of weeks. (I bought 2 pair). I started this journey in a really tight 24W. I've gone down to a loose 20W. OMG, OMG, OMG......Size 18 here I come! All this and I am still pre-op. Woohoo!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
