Conjugated Linoleic Acid or known as Tonalin

I read on the internet that there have been some scientific studies done and backed up by the American Diabetes Association that Conjugated Linoleic Acid in a 3.4 gram daily dosage is beneficial to helping lipid levels in obese and diabetes patients. More info I gathered also indicated that this nutritional supplement will assist patients from putting on abdominal fat in conjunction of course with good nutrition and exercise. Another benefit - it keeps ones small fat cells from turning into BIG ones. Awesome if it is all valid information.

Now, after having been on this conjugated linoleic acid for 5 days, I can honestly tell you that I no longer have cravings for chocolate, sweets, breads, carbs (nor Proteins for that matter). I take 2000 mg in the a.m. and it curbs my appetite - then I take 2 around 7 or 8 pm at night which is my incredible craving time of the day (imagine a 300 lb tiger with nashing teeth wanting to eat anything and everything - hungry or not-the old "head hunger" demon). To my delight and surprise, I no longer crave bad things after supper-don't even feel the need to "have something sweet and baaaaad" (other than my husband). My daughter tried it today and she had the same result - now understand that my daughter is no pushover and was quite skeptical to say the least. Is there anyone out there who knows if this is a real result of taking this supplement? Any info and feedback would be appreciated and may even shed some light on the matter.

Not yet banded, but will be on Feb 7 2007.

Hi priscilla, I put it in my chili yesterday, and didnt even notice it in there. No diarhea yet, no other side effects that i know of. Thursdays are my weigh in day, so we'll see whats what then!

I bought a bottle of the liquid CLA, and once it arrived and I had read the label, I decided against taking it. I am a nursing mom of a 5 month old exclusively breastfed infant, and the stuff on the label about fat absorption worried me. I did some research, and I found this study http://matportalen.no/Saker/1074243531.86 that warns nursing moms against taking CLA. I've got a full bottle of this stuff, and I only opened it to see what it smelled like. If anyone wants it, I'll sell it to you for $10 (less than half of my cost) plus shipping. Email me at kim@naturalfamilyboutique.com if you're interested.

I should have known better! The posts had me really excited to try this stuff. I should have done my research first. :cry

Kimster - sorry about your discovery after the purchase of CLA. I was not aware of that study and understand how you would be advised not to take it. I personally have quite a bit of it right now. Thanks for the heads up re: the study - I looked at it and it made sense for pregnant and nursing moms to avoid it. I am having great success with it however and hope that others will too. Its so nice not to have those cravings that drive me crazy! Good luck.

Thanks for the sympathy :)

It was my bad. I know better and should have done the research ahead of time. I'm a retired LLL Leader, and through my work I have found that only rarely is a drug truly contraindicated during lactation. It is usually chemotherapy drugs or something of that sort, and most other things are perfectly OK while nursing. Go figure! Something seemingly harmless could be a no-no!

Hi Kim - again, I am so sorry about your discovery. If you would like, I will send you the amount you paid for it but you don't need to mail the pills to me. I see you have 6 kids - whew! You deserve a medal for that and working a home-based business too. Also, just to clarify for everyone out there - CLA is not a drug but a nutritional supplement - its ingredients found in fish oils, various nuts, sunflower seeds, etc. I was blown away however, by the study that indicated it has an effect on the fat in breast milk - definitely a big concern! :speechles

Well I am happy, pricilla, down 2.4 lbs, after having a small gain. I think I'm going to continue with it at least til i finish the bottle. No real side effects that i am aware of.

ps my babynursing days are long gone!heheh

hi everyone i just got back from holiday and catching up on what's been happening, hence the late post on this, sound's a really good product does anyone know if i can get it in australia or should i send for one to try from the address on this post and if i do do you know if it's safe site....ta jenny

HI Jenny try your local health food/supplements place. it goes bye cla, tonalin, or conjugated lineolic acid. It is supposed to be completely safe. Good luck!

Hey Neenagh! Glad to hear you are losing. I find that if I consistently take it I reduce my cravings with it. I am starting my 2 wks of Opti-fast tomorrow. I have not gained any weight yet - so keep your fingers crossed for me.:nervous

So I read this thread two days ago and literally dashed out of my house to go buy some. My bf had quite the puzzled look on his face!

I am in desperate need of help! I gained over the holidays and have been in a self induced stall for six months anyway. I want the last 35 lbs OFF and to hit goal.

So I've been taking this for two days and I don't know if it's the CLA or just the mental suggestion...but it seems to have helped with hunger and cravings. I have been able for two days now to eat "right" and way lower calories than in a long time without being lightheaded.

So far so good. I wonder how long the effects will last. I need some help for several months...not just a few days, you know?

Anyhow, thanks to pricilla!!

This does sound interesting. I just ordered some of the liquid CLA from affordablesupplements.com. A bit pricey, but I really wanted to try the liquid. Will keep you posted.

I thought i had ordered the liquid but got the big black pills (capsules) and was a bit nervous about swallowing one but so far so good - even in the morning. Just started so honestly nothing huge is happening yet but i will report back in a week or so. I'm taking three capsules a day with meals and each capsule is 2.22 grams. It's my period week so if they can cut my cravings this week, I'll be impressed....mary

wow - not sure if it's the tonaliin cla i've been taking for THREE DAYS but i have lost almost 3lbs - and anyone who knows me or follows my threads knows i never ever can lose weight no lmatter what i do. very strange but i'm going to keep taking them. in fact i've only taken two capsules a day not even the three recommended. now one possible and i repeat possible compications - last night at dinner i had a brief dizzy spell which was scary as i never have a dizzy spell - really not going to freak iunless it happens again but i did wonder if the cla had something to do with it. i did have two bloody mary's for lunch with soup that afternoon which is quite rare for me too so maybe it was that combined with no food until a late dinner......anyway, go cautiously but i'm curiously optimistic about continuing this supplement.
