I have messed up and I'm so annoyed with myself

I am 4 weeks post op and today for the first time since surgery, my eating was a little out of control. Yesterday my doctor told me that I could no longer eating virtually anything containing sugar. This didn't come as a huge surprise to me and, I have been eating very little sugar since surgery. Mistake No. 1 My pre sleeve self took this as "let's just have one more sugar fix. Tomorrow that's it I'm not going to eat anything like that again." Mistake No. 2 I lied to myself about all the good reasons I should buy mango sorbet. I told myself " you have been feeling so nauseas the last couple of days that this may feel nice going down and given how little you are eating you need some calories." Mistake No. 3 I grazed over my mango sorbet (which went down effortlessly) and ended up eating 3/4 of the container. I feel so stupid. I never want to go back to my old ways. I'm just shocked by our easy it is to slip into old habits. I feel really ashamed with myself. :(

Twins, it doesn't sound like what you have is 'dumping'. It sounds like you're lactose intollerant. I haven't been sleeved yet, but I'm LI and I have the same problem if I eat something with dairy. And sometimes (very seldom) trace amounts of dairy are in my food and it doesn't bother me. But the very next time I eat the same food, I get really sick. I just avoid all dairy now. It stinks.

Yes, I agree I can no longer do lactose. But I also dump with other foods, just didn't list those because they are so random. For example I tried crab and literally had to lay down for 2 hours, had the sweats and a fever. I've tried crab (prepared differently) since then and was fine. I also had a mega dump with turkey lunch meat (which was my go-to).

In the beginning I couldn't eat any sugar or fat or I would dump. Now I can handle a little sugar (like 2 bites of cake on a special occasion) but the fat is still a no go. No vinaigrette dressing, anything cooked in a crock pot, full fat anything, fried foods are completely out. Kinda keeps me in check though.

It's funny you say that about the lunch meat, because it contains casein (almost all lunch meats contain this) and if you're LI, you can't tolerate casein either because it contains the same Proteins that are found in milk!

For the longest time I couldn't eat canned tuna because almost all canned tuna contains casein, but I found that Bumble Bee doesn't use this ingredient and I don't have a reaction when I eat it. I just avoid almost all lunch meat now. Almost all the Boar's Head meats are casein free so I eat those sometimes. :)

Wow, thank you for this! So glad you posted, you've taught me a bunch by this. Who knew lunch meat would contain a milk based product? That is really something.

You are very welcome! I've been dealing with LI for about 3 years now (I've only been aware that I have it for about 2 years). It sucks! And it seems like mine is pretty bad because I have friends who are LI and they can tolerate a lot of things I can't (yogurt, cottage cheese, etc).
