  1. Hi! I'm new to this entire process. I've been doing lots of research on the VSG and I feel it is my best long-term, weight loss option. I have BCBS Federal and I am required to have at least one co-morbidity since my BMI is less than 40, but greater than 35. My BMI is currently 35.5. I called BCBS to ask them what co-morbidities they count as significant for approval and they said: high blood pressure diabetes sleep apnea I don't have any of these things. But I do have: migraines prehypertension osteoarthritis in my spine and hips scoliosis knee/joint pain BCBS did tell me that since I do not have any of the 'major' comorbids, that I higher level supervisor would have to review my case and make the decision. My question is, did any of you get approved for your surgery through BCBS and you did not have high blood pressure/diabetes/sleep apnea? And if you did get approved, what were your comorbidities? Thank you!!!
  2. If you had IBS prior to surgery, how do you feel post-op? Do you find your symptoms are better or worse?

    Going back to work

Mine said 2-3 weeks but he cleared me to return after 1.5 weeks since I was doing so well!

    Water argh!

Prior to surgery, I LOVED water, ice cold water, and I drank it all the time. Since my surgery 4 weeks ago, I struggle to get in my water every day and I haven't once reached my goal of 64oz. I've tried all additives too and I HATE fruity flavors and juice. I've added lemon and cucumber, crystal light, sf kool aid, mio, etc. I've tried room temp and cold. I can, however, eat ice and I try to do that all day long. I've also found that if I dilute apple juice (the only juice I like) I can drink that. But it's a constant struggle and I hope it gets better. Good luck to you!

    Going into week #4

Yes. It's on my puree stage foods. I've eaten grits several times (I'm 4 weeks post op) and they were good! I added a little scrambled egg to mine too for a little protein.

    Morning Nausea?

The pill was probably prescription zofran. It works well!
  7. I'm also going to try some fiber gummies. Hopefully that will help!
  8. I haven't tried coffee yet. I was a regular coffee drinker pre-sleeve but I just haven't had a taste for it. But I think I'll have to try this weekend!
  9. I'm 3 1/2 weeks post op and can only eat about 2oz of meat and 1tbs of veggies at a meal. But I don't think it's abnormal the portions you stated. My sleeve is probably still a little swollen. I think my nut would like to see me eating that portion for dinner in a couple of weeks. I'll work up to it.
  10. It's been 1 week now and I haven't had a BM! I've taken MOM for the past 2 days plus a stool softener and nothing yet! I was pretty regular up until this. I'm 3.5 weeks postop. I don't feel constipated or bloated. And I hate taking the MOM and stool softener though because they make me almost vomit! Yuck! I don't know what to do. I have some fiber that I could add to a shake, but per my NUT, I'm trying to get my protein from my food and not shakes now. I guess if nothing happens soon I'll have to get an enima.
  11. You look amazing! Thank you so much for sharing! I am only 3.5 weeks post op and this gives me so much encouragement!

    My pre-op and post-op diet

Yes, like baby food. It has to be the consistency of applesauce.

    Today is the day!

Good luck to everyone! I wish you all a speedy recovery!

    Cramping

I'm almost 3 weeks post op and I can tell you each day gets better and better! The first week was so hard for me but now I feel good! Just take it one day at a time and you'll feel better soon! Just make sure at this point you stay hydrated! Congrats on this big step!

    Peanut butter?

I've been on purées since 4 days post op and I'm allowed natural peanut butter. I eat 1 tbs a couple of times a week.

    Post op

I started them a few days after surgery and have tolerated them well. I chew one in the morning and one at night.
  17. I'm almost 3 weeks postop and am cleared for purees and I've been able to tolerate small bites of roasted chicken that I chew up really good. It goes down well and doesn't hurt. Maybe try that. I start transitioning to regular foods next Friday (25th).
  18. 20 pounds is great AND 25 preop! I was sleeved on the 27th and I've lost 18 pounds. I started at 210 and am now 192. I didn't have a PreOp diet but in the 3 months before my surgery I lost 15 pounds.
  19. I'm lactose intolerant too (but have been for a couple of years). I drink lactaid milk and it's good! Maybe you can try that. I was sleeved on Sept 27th. Welcome!

    Caffeine addict

My NUT said I could have 1 cup of coffee per day and preferably with milk (protein) and artificial sweetener. I'm only 17 days postop so I haven't tried it yet, but I will soon. As far as detox goes, I drank coffee every day up until the day of my surgery. I detoxed and didn't even know it while I was recovering. It wasn't bad at all. And honestly, I'm ok with not having my coffee right now. I just don't have a taste for it yet. But eventually I'm sure I'll return to it.
  21. I'm 2 weeks postop and tired of purées too. I have 2 more weeks on purées before I transition to regular food. I'm just so ready to chew. I've been eating ice and that seems to help. I'm eating a lot of refried beans and egg salad. This week I'm going to make tuna patties (like salmon patties except with tuna) and I use a small amount of almond meal instead of flour. It's really soft so I think it will be easy to eat.

    contraceptive question

I had it for about 4 years and liked it because of no hormones, but my periods got more painful and longer so I had it taken out. I'm getting mirena next month. Most people don't even have a period with that.
