2-1/2 Months Post-Op & 60 lbs gone forever.... w/ pics

Recommended Posts

I've been a quiet follower in this site for some time now but this is my first actual post. I had surgery on 5/13/13 (about 2-1/2 months ago) and have lost a total of 60 pounds (including 20 lbs on the pre-op liquid diet that I only did for about 6 days). As most of us here have, I have struggled with weight problems my entire life. I can't remember when, besides maybe when I was about 7 years old, was the last time I was at a "normal" weight. Still I would diet and excercise on and off and lose some, and then regain it all and more, and I did this on and off throughout my life... Eventually I hit my highest weight ever (or so I thought) at 267 and I decided that I would try surgery. For the six months that I was required to be monitored by the nutritionist, I gained and gained until by the day of my surgery, I was 280 pounds! I was getting depressed and sad that I was not able to do things without being exhausted, I couldn't play with my kids like they wanted me too because I couldn't keep up, I couldn't wear the nicer clothing because I couldn't find any in my size - not the things that I wanted, and at night I couldn't sleep anymore because I would wake up gasping for air so many times in my sleep. I was at the point that I would sleep sitting down and even that didn't help....

Today I'm happy to report that I have been sleeved, I am eating as good as I can and as close to the nutritionist's recommendations as possible (although I'm not 100% perfect but I can say 90% of the time I am on point), I am exercising and I have soooooo much more energy and my self esteem is back. I've taken on mountain bike riding and I'm getting into road cycling and I love it. I mostly love how I can actually do these things and not feel like I'm dying and out of breath within the first few minutes like I would in the past. I'm a total of 60 pounds lighter at 220lbs as of yesterday and I feel GREAT. I am looking forward to the next several months to see how much I can progress and honestly, to the rest of my new life, because at 30 years old, I felt like an older person before but now I feel like I'm 21 again. I'm loving this!

Hi Ms.McFixie,

I'm 29 years old and i wanted to know do you have loose skin since your weight loss? They inform me that since I'm still young I'm skin would not sag.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
