I don't understand the post op 2 week diet

Recommended Posts

I am 6 days out. I don t understand why I can have processed cream of whatever and broth and yogurt but you can't have fresh blended up fruit or eggs. I need something more than Soup. I know its tmi but my belly can tell there is no substance coming in...so I'm having trouble with diarrhea...which doesn't help my fluids! I want an egg or some refried Beans and my nut said no!

Me either. not understanding why I can't blend up a smoothie in my blender and drink it (liquids are whatever you can get thru a straw, or so I was told once). I would even add a scoop of Protein powder. But dr says no. No fresh fruits/veggies until the 3rd month.

liquid is liquid is liquid, or so I see it. But you'd better listen to your dr. Don't want any complications (like a leak at your staple line from adding food too fast). They have as much education s they do for a reason.

My doctor told me to do liquids for a few days and then move to puree. If I tolerate that then I was to move to mushy foods right after that. I was told to eat only 1 new food at a time though. I have had absolutely no trouble with this. My bougie was a size 36 if yours was smaller that may be why he is so conservative. So you should listen to your doctor. Good luck to you!!

I guess I'm so confused bc I was given two diets. One from the hospiyal program and one from my dr. My dr. Said ok to juicing...his nut also said ok to refried Beans. However, I don't trust her. The hospital nut said no to all. I just wish I could understand how all that processed stuff was better for me than juiced fruit, eggs, and cooked well beans. I could take it better if I understood why all dr are different. I'm one that needs to rationalize it...and I can't rationalize being flushed of fluids bc I can only have processed Soups, broth, and yogurt. I know this will end in one week!!!

Count yourself lucky. My surgeon requires 3 weeks of liquids only. And he means liquids, no jell-o, no yogurt, no pudding, no purees, etc. His definition of liquids is anything that can go through a strainer easy; no lumps, no bumps. I have 4 more days to go! Of course he also said that in 6,000 procedures he's only had 2 patients with leaks, so I trust him.

I feel so bad I had my surgery Monday. Tuesday @ lunch I was cleared for clear liquids and Wednesday morning I went to purees. Im on purees for 3 weeks, but I can't imagine being on liquids for that long. Although I will say its hard to get your H2O in when you can't have Water 30 minutes before or after eating. So much timing and scheduling to make sure you get everything you need.

Not drinking is awful. I am having a hard time with scheduling around it.

There is method to their madness. First of all, fruits are a 'treat', natural sugar or not, it's sugar, and many have little seeds that can get lodged in that line of staples inside you gut. Not fun, I'm sure of it. An egg will be soon, but from what I understand many people have a hard time with them, some for a while, some forever. Be patient, and take it from someone who has NOT had diarrhea since surgery, enjoy being able to go......I've had the other problem since about week 3, that is over 3 years now. All this Protein, sure does get me and a lot of others on here. You may WANT something more, but you aren't going to die of starvation, I assure you. You do not NEED anything more than what your doctor or dietitian tells you you can have.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
