Has Anyone Managed To Keep Surgery Completely Private?

Recommended Posts

I wonder if there is anyone who has ever kept the surgery completely private and told no one (except spouse). Is it ever possible to keep it a secret?

I know people have different opinions on whether or not you should - and I've seen great threads on this here and would rather not debate that right now. :)

Just wondering if anyone has kept it their business and told no one or very, very few people.

Thanks!

I only told my husband and oldest daughter. My mother n law figured it out...but that's because I came over to eat while I was still in recovery, and figuring everything out...and I had to run to the bathroom to throw up. Nobody else knows, still, two years out. Everyone always asks how I lost my weight...which I tell them a low calorie high Protein diet...lots of exercise. I was a slower loser, so that helped as well. I think people expect that after someone gets wls that they just instantly lose weight overnight. So when you lose slower they are more apt to believe you did it without any help. Good luck!

My husband and one of our sons know. That's it. It's nobody's business.

Great question. My surgery is Aug 8th and only my spouse, parents & children know. I'm hoping to keep it that way.

I wanted it to be a secret but i told a close family member/ a parent. They texted the rest of my family cousins uncles etc. With my secret. I found out. I was angry to say the least. It wasn't everyones business. So, i found out that some people will share their fears and concern for you with other family members. This was my experience. You have to decide how you want to handle your surgery details. If I have another surgery like TT I would not feel a need to get permission from anyone other than telling my spouse. Lesson Learned.

Good luck

Yeah, I managed for about a month! Ha! Only my husband and daughter (well, bestie too) knew. But my other childhood friend flat out asked me after going to lunch one day since I could only eat about a spoonful. When I got a couple months out, I quit worrying about it. When people would ask how I was losing, I'd say "Portion control!" Which IS true. Good luck, All! 3 years out - and 100 pounds lighter. You're gonna love it!

I told my hubby, step son and one of my closest friends. I did not tell my stepdaughter who doesn't live with us. We don't get along and she will be über jealous when I'm thin.

I started out wanting to tell no one - I learned who the bigmouths were in my life very quickly!

Fortunately, everyone that has found out has been really supportive.

Husband, sons and prayer group know no one else. I made a big deal of being on a new diet pre-op and work colleagues were ok with this. I'm not a real fast loser (82lb in 1 yr) so no one has really questioned it. People see I eat differently, small plate with mainly Protein and that I now exercise.

No answer here from me. I just wanted to ask you if y've ever been told you look alot like Melissa McCarthy? In your profile pic I thought it was her for a minute.

If you've never heard it, you have now!

You're NOT a fast loser? 82 lbs in a year is pretty good, I think!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
