Any other July 1st sleevers home?

Recommended Posts

Mine was at 8am yesterday and I'm already home. They practically kicked me out and said I was god enough to come home. I disagreed' date=' but the promised I'd be okay. I had a 3 hour ride home and I AM HURTING. I was not one of the lucky ones who had an easy surgery... it's been rough every step. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. God luck to all the other July Firsters![/quote']

This is me updating on my own post! I have slept all day long... Worried about not getting enough fluids because I'm sleeping all the time. My tummy is fine when I lay down, but hurts like hades when I'm standing up. I think the worst part so far is having to crush my pills to take them!! YUK!! I've tried dissolving them in crystal light and then putting the leftover chunks in Jello. Either way... it sucks. Any pointers on swallowing crushed pills? (Applesauce would be easy... But I'm not at that stage yet).

Also, when do y'all start taking your Bariatric Vitamins, B12, & Calcium? I can't imagine trying to take those, too!!!!!

I was told at discharge to hold off on vitamins/supplements until a week post-op.

My sleeve procedure was around 11:00 a.m. on Monday (July 1st); I just came home today (Wednesday). I've concentrated on walking around a lot to try to tame the mega-painful extra-large gas bubbles that rumble around every single time I swallow any liquid (clear or full' date=' doesn't matter).

My trochar sites are still sore and I'm having to pee pretty often, but that's no biggie. I'd just like to be able to take teeny sips of Soup or Crystal Light without feeling like my stomach is trying to take up a new yoga routine. Owie.[/quote']

There you are!! Glad things are going OK.. How was the hospital stay..did you have another surgeon in the OR with you?

Is anyone else dreaming about food? It's so strange, every time I go to sleep I dream about eating.

I was told to not take any Vitamins until my 2 week post op visit. I too am worried I'm not getting enough fluids. Anything I drink feels like its getting stuck in my chest. It even takes me 10 minutes to get my 15 ml of pain meds down.

I am also having horrible gas pains that keep me from sleeping more than an hour at a time.

I just keep telling myself this is only day 4...this WILL get better soon!

My hospital stay was fine--I had an awesome roomie and we got along great, which helped pass the time between walks and sips!

I don't think I had any surgeon other than mine--but I was asleep, so I can't be positive.

I had my surgery on July 1st at 730 am and was discharged on July 2nd at 4pm. The worst was the 1 hr ride home. I was sore when I got home. I don't start my vitamins/supplements until 4 weeks postop. My post op diet is as follows:

weeks 1-3 liquids(first week clear then full liquids after 1 week post op appointment) Sucky!

week 4 pureed

week 5 soft

I find it interesting how different all the post op diets are. I wish I could have full liquids now.

My gas pains are gone for the most part. Just have a gas bubble stuck around my neck by my shoulder I can feel it when I take a deep breath. I only got in around 6 oz all day yesterday, but I figure I had non stop IV's in the hospital so I am fine for now. Starting the 6 oz every 2 hours today of clear s/f liquids. Saturday I start the Protein ENS shakes from my nutritionist mixed with Water and those have all the Vitamins I need daily. I find if I sit up when drinking and burp when I need to it goes down a little easier. The surgical sites are still pretty painful especially when I change positions. I am finally able to use the incentive spirometer again. I have no desire to eat or drink anything at all. I am having to force myself and my husband keeps reminding me to drink. I just keep thinking about then end result and now it will get better.

I'm feeling ok, but struggling to get my fluids and Protein in. I'm going to try and be better about that today. I slept better last night because my cottonmouth was better. I had taken off the antinausea patch yesterday and I think that helped.

I had surgery on 7/1, and that first day was a big blur. The next day I was up and around more, but then threw up, so I ended up with a gastrographin swallow study the next am (7/3). It was not great at all! But the results were good, so I was happy about that. Doc said the edema was just bad the first few days, and that may come back at about 10-12 days (I don't know why, but I'm glad to expect it now).

I'm heading home in about 1.5 hours. Will be asking for pain meds prior to trip, as I have a 2 hour drive home. Not looking forward to the trip, but super excited to be getting home.

This has not been easy, but I didn't think it would be. It's a huge step, but I feel good about it. I am trying not concentrate on numbers just yet, but it does help to know that I am already down 18 pounds from my highest weight. :)

I was sleeved @ 11 am July 1. I had to stay overnight because of the stomach spasms when I sipped. I walked pretty good back and forth to the restroom. Was released around 10 am July 2. Gas not that bad. Pain is tolerable. Sipping on broth, shakes and eating Jello. Hoping to get in more Protein.< /p>

Yes! And it doesn't help that we are surrounded by food July 4th cookout food. Even though I think I would live to have some when I actually look at it I get sick just thinking about it.

I too am a July1 sleever. I had my surgery around 8:00am and went home July 2 around 1000 am. I too am sipping between naps but still having a lot of pain and gurgling with each sip. So nice to have a large July 1 group!!

I was sleeved July 1st too. Discharged yesterday. Wondering what in the heck I have gotten myself into! WOW! Never thought I was a wuss, but seriously thinking I might be. I've already had issues with dehydration, nausea, back pain, and it feels like someone is squeezing my stomach every time I take a sip of Water. I cannot tolerate anything but warm broth, water, and occasionally tea. Only pain med I can tolerate is Tylenol and it doesn't help much. I have gained 20 pounds and look like the Michellin man! So swollen! I'm scheduled to have additional IVF's tomorrow because I'm not getting in enough fluids. Headache, trapped air bubbles in chest, back pain & nausea is the worst. Anyone else having any of these issues?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
