a list of things to bring?

Recommended Posts

I was recently scheduled for Aug 3 with Dr. Elias Ortiz for my surgery. I was supposed to go in March and when the timing fell through, didn't spend as much time on the boards.

When I was on here a lot before, I used to see suggestions of things to bring to the hospital. I don't know if I just am not looking in the right spots, or what. Can you guys give me some suggestions? I would greatly appreciate it!

gym shorts to wear while walking the halls. you can't run around in those backless gowns - they should be outlawed, but i guess they're convenient.

There's a thread at the top of the Pre-Op Forum, I think. I took my own gown & robe & an extension cord for my phone charger, since the outlets are always too far away. Lip balm & slippers or flip flops for walking.

I've seen a few people mention ear plugs. Either because of loud hallways at night or construction going on during the day. This is a brief list of just some of the things I'm taking along with my clothes: My Kindle Fire HD, charger for that and cell phone (same one fits both), car charger adapter (for airplane), head phones, swimsuit (for the first day of pre-op hotel), meds I have to take daily, Gas-X, travel size everything, sunglasses, wet wipes and hand sanitizer.

I brought a pair of comfortable sweat pants, some pajama pants and a few t-shirts. I also brought my laptop and I'm hella glad I did because Mexico has some bitchin Netflix options.

Whoop whoop dr Ortiz is awesome! I was sleeved by Lopez and Ortiz.

My phone didn't work in Mexico, so think about that. I used my iPad constantly for tv and FaceTime/Skype calls. They let you change out of your gown prettysoonafter surgery there. So sweatpants or loose pants or shorts are good. Something with pockets so you can put your drain in there. A big t shirt. Something comfortable to wear out for when Abraham and Ricardo take you out n the town. Bring some cash to tip people and if you want souvenirs. Flip flops or slippers.

Last but not least, hemorrhoid cream if you have butt issues lol. I don't know how else to put it. There's some diareah that comes with it all...

Zoey had the most important suggestion--for me! Also take GasX strips. Lip balm is good, but I should have taken Neosporin. I got a big sore on my lip from the tube they stick down your throat (I guess-I was asleep!), and the Carmex didn't help. When I got home I tried Neosporin and that got rid of it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
