A little nervous I have my surgery on July 23rd.

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

My name is Ally and i'm 22 i've always struggled with my weight since I was in middle school.(I currently weigh 320). My friend got gastric sleeve surgery and I asked him about what he did to drop the weight once I noticed he was dropping weight. I took it upon myself to look into it because I had reached my final limits because I had always struggled and nothing I ever did worked. I am a little nervous about getting it done, but I know its for the better. I had all my pre-ops on Tuesday July 25th and am scheduled for my surgery on July 23rd and starting my liquid diet on July 9th. I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me. I know I am making the right decision but that does not help the fact that I am nervous. Thanks so much.

Ally

I was in the same boat as you. I'm 24 sw 310. I'm a month post op and feeling good. Do your beat to follow dr's orders but don't be supervised if you struggle in the beginning. Drinking is really hard I'm still struggling to get my Protein in. If you need anything message me :)

U Stated that u had a friend whose done it...what better person to tell u nd show u what to expect? Or did he not want to share that info? We are def here to support whatever decisions you make, ultimate word there is YOU...if you've done the research, made the appointments, nd are jumping through the required hoops, then its obvious UK what ur getting in to, which is a lifetime life change w a tool to HELP u get there. There will still b work to do, so make sure ur up for the job. U will have lots of support here nd can find any topic from the postops nd vets here. And if you're not a little scared then uve not done ur homework, its natural nd expected. Nope, I've not been sleeved yet nd u make take my opinion n vain but it comes from reading these posts, doing my OWN research, talkn w my surgical nd wl team, nd group meetings. I'm nervous nd I don't have a date yet, but I'm anxiously excited, nd tryn to encourage others who too r waiting to b on " the losers bench'" so hang n there n let's do this!! Gl, but most of all, God Bless You! Dee Dee

Hi Ally!

I am scheduled on the 26th so just a couple days behind you. I am nervous too. I think most people are during the last few weeks before surgery. Before you get that date, you are just focusing on getting all of your testing done. Once you get it, it becomes real very quickly. That's when the nerves set in with me. Any time I start to feel anxious about it, I just think of everything I tried before this and how every time, I failed. This time I know I won't. As long as you have done your research and know that this is a life change and not a quick fix, you will be fine.

I wish you the best and hope for a speedy recovery!

Lorie

Being nervous is totally normal. And having a close friend whose had it done is WONDERFUL! I wish I had that kind of support from someone close. You have to realize that the fears are normal - I realized that having surgery at 20 was better than having heart surgery at 30 because I was over 360lbs. When I look back on my pre-surgery videos on YouTube, I laugh at the fears I had... because none of them were true in the slightest. Everything went well, I'm losing, happier than ever. So glad I made this decision. If you have any questions feel free to contact me - it's so nice to find some younger people and I'm glad to help out!

Congrats on your date. I got my date of July 23rd this morning. I'm so happy. But my nerves are kicking in now but bring them on. :D Once again congrats and you will be fine. Like someone already said make it about yourself and you will be fine.

Thank you everyone for your support and well wishes! I know it is the best decision I can make, I've had my family and their support but I keep getting the "you put yourself in this situation" And it hurts to know what i've done but now I am doing my best to fix it. If I may ask what did you guys do for your liquid diet? I am so glad I have found support of others who have been here before.

Ally

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
