I thought I would kick off the fun for August Sleevers! So here we go!!

I am scheduled for Monday August 19th! Let the countdown begin!!

I'm scheduled for August 22!! Still feeling nervous. I can't get this idea out of my head that I can do this on my own. 15 years of trying has proven that I can't.

Just yesterday a Facebook friend posted a warning to anyone thinking about weight loss surgery. She's had several blood transfusions and she said she regrets having the surgery. So that's all I could think about last night. I think maybe she just didn't follow the health plan.

Does anyone have words of encouragement?

Honestly, everyone has different experiences! But honestly I have had the ideal recovery this past week! So not everyone has bad experiences! I thought fr certain something would go wrong and almost backed out several times!!! But everyday i wake up I thank God for giving me strength to follow through! You can do this! It's worth every second!

My surgery is tomorrow and I'm freaking out. I'm so scared of complications. What if I don't wake up? Should I write goodbye letters to my kids and husband "just in case". I had Lapband 2 years ago and I don't remember being this scared and nervous. :/

Scheduled for lapband to sleeve-8/9. CW-279. Sent from my iPhone using VST

I thought about writting a letter to my daughter but I couldn't stop balling enough to even get through the first sentence. Just think, soon you'll be healthier happier and stronger for your husband, your kids and most importantly for you!! You've come this far, you can do this! Prayers are with you! :)

We have all had the same fears and worries. That's why the vets here encourage everyone to research, research, research. Some people have complications including death. Some, like me, had no issues whatsoever. Any surgery has risks, in fact just going outside or driving your car is a risk, but we have faith that we know the dangers and we are prepared. Have faith in your surgical team, follow their recommendations and you should be fine but there are no guarantees. I also thought about writing letters but I never did. Do what you feel you want to do about that. I wish you all a happy and healthy journey!!!

Hey all! One week out!! I am officially starting my liquid diet although I was wanting to do it yesterday, but ended up crying in a Chinese restaurant instead. I was going to just journal about it but thought that some of my fellow VSG ers would get a laugh out of it so I started a little blog. Please check it out and let me know what you think, and if you can relate.

Aww sweetie! I'm sorry for the crappy Chinese food. I'm sorry your "last hoorah" wasn't what you expected it to be. But look... you WILL enjoy Chinese food again!! Just not in mass quantities! You may not tolerate all that you used to, but you will find things that will satisfy you just the same. Hang in there, darlin'! I know it's going to be awesome :)

Well today I am struggling. Surgery was a breeze and hospital stay easy as pie. I have has little to no pain and little to no nausea. Ideal patient you say? Well I have been really struggling with hunger! Not enough Protein? I thought 80 g would do! Head hunger!? Maybe? Plus is that I'm down 22 lbs! I know this will pass once i move on to puréed! These liquids are getting boring! Ugh!

I have dreamed about food for two days now. It's not just you. Visions of sandwiches and Soup and kebabs and rice are dancing through my head. It's all calling me seductively. And I'm drinking shakes and Water instead.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
