Hey ladies! I am scheduled for surgery on July 1st. I don't know why but i'm getting nervous. I don't think it's about the surgery necessarily, that part will be easy, espcially compared to open heart surgery that I had three years ago. I think i'm more neveous about not being successful, about constantly thinking about food and not physically needing or wanting it. I'v heard that head hunger can be bad, but i'v also heard people say that isn't an issure for them.

I'm stocked up on shake mix, I just need to stock up on Soups and such. I'll do that this coming week.

I've been experimenting with shakes and greek yogurt mixins. Plain greek yogurt with a bit of sf chocolate pudding mix is actually quite tasty and it gets so thick that i'm considering mixing a bit of milk or almond milk in to think it.

I wish I could find an alternative to the shakes, it's so expensive. I can't believe that there aren't alternitives to it.

I'm also getting excited. I'm calling life after surgery Sheri 2.0....haha. Can't wait to get started.

Sheri,

I am getting nervous too. Not so much about the surgery, just like you said- but everything that goes with it. I have a friend who had bypass and she has been very successful, but she frequently (like multiple times) has said at first after surgery it's like just the food/ vitamins/ drinking is like a full time job. I am nervous about that part. Getting the hang of everything. With the restriction of drinks 30min before/ after food, and eating every 3 hours and eating slow, I feel like I wouldn't be getting anything else done, just drinking/ eating...

SIGH!

My psych/lifestyle workshop leader has asked group members to become more mindful eaters, to take very small nibbles instead of wolfing down a meal, to savor tastes and chew everything much more thoroughly. That, I can do pretty well. The strategy of putting down the fork/spoon between bites, though, is really tough for me--isn't that silly? I'm so used to having the fork in my hand that I can't seem to remember to let it go; and when I *do* remember to put the fork down, it's like I don't know what to do with myself until the next bite. I had no idea I was using my fork as a crutch, LOL.

I'm also nervous about staying on schedule with Vitamins and remembering when to stop drinking before/after meals. Those are my big hurdles to get through; annnnd not freaking out that I've never had general anesthesia before...meep!!

There's twelve days left...

Maybe we should do a parody of the Twelve Days of Christmas to mark each day. new_xmas.gif

I have a little personal sized blender at home that I got from Walmart. It was about 15 and works well with liquids and powder. Adding fruits to it leaves "chunks of strawberries" in my shake. But I won't be adding the fruits for a while anyhow.

I need to get some cream of ____ Soups too. I will be on full liquids when I get home (day of surgery Water and ice' date=' day 1 post Clear Liquids, day 2 post full liquids) I have several puddings and jellos (SF of course).

I need to ask my surgeon about mag citrate or something. I have heard nothing about colon cleaning out, and she doesn't require a pre op diet either, so I could be all full of poo the day of surgery... no fun!

Where did you find the Torani Syrup stuff? I LOVE how I totally knew what Tarjay meant!

There is a good list of what to take to the hospital, it is a post in the "Preop" forum. Maybe one of the ones who know how to do forum stuff better can attach it here?[/quote']

You can get the torani syrup at smart and final, bevmo, and cost plus world market

What is the Torani Syrup?

"I noticed the Torani sugar free syrups on my last shopping trip there. I'm pretty sure you can get them on Amazon as well if you don't mind paying the shipping--or maybe try the Torani website (http://www.torani.com/) to see which stores near you might carry the sugar free versions. My local grocery store has the full-sugar versions, but not the sugar free ones."

We were talking about it on page one. I think it is a flavor adding Syrup that some people are adding to their Protein shakes.

Oh ok! Thanks! I remember hearing about it, I guess I was just confused what it was used for. I've started drinking Protein Shakes for breakfast...just to try different ones out. Though I'm afraid my tastes will change and I'll have to start all over again! BTW, if you ladies like Peanut Butter and haven't tried PB2 yet, you MUST! PB2 is a powdered for of peanut butter...and it only has 45 cals and 1.5g of fat!!! You can reconstitute it to make a PB but I'll be honest...haven't tried that yet cause it scares me a little. But blend it up in a chocolate Protein Drink? Delicious!!!

a little over a week to go with two more weekends........ I have preop/surgery bootcamp/class on Wensday. I got the final blessing from my cardiologist yesterday (i already had cardiac clearance but the cardiologist was worried about the possibility of blockages).

I plan on stocking up on liquids in my pantry this weekend and maybe even buy me some cute jammies to wear around the house when I get home.

I just wish a fairy would come clean my house and wash all my bedding.......

where are you guys from?

I live in winchester ky and i'm going to Lexington to St. joseph bariatrics. Dr. Greenlee is scheduled to do my surgery.

Nervous, scared all of the above! I made it through 3 days of the liquid diet and then I felt like I was going to pass out! So I have been cheating with a light lunch. My dr I Italy told me 5 days then the coordinator told me 2 weeks! I'm back to hardcore tomorrow.

This is my first post! I spend more hours on VST than on FB these days! I'm also scheduled for July 1 in Dallas, TX! I'm on a 2 week, full liquid diet, then 2 days if Clear Liquids before surgery. Today is Day 5 for me and I could commit a crime!!!!! My head hurts like it never has before! The mornings are fine, but the afternoons and evening suck! Yesterday was sooo much better and I thought I was passed the worst... guess not!! Good luck to everyone!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
