Hey Lizrbit, I have the opposite problem. I was supposed to start solids today but I am too scared to! I am scared I will make a mistake and vomit. I am still eating mushies. Susannah

I'm right with you, Susannah! Basically, I’m going a little stir-crazy here. I want to experiment with the new food freedoms I was just granted on the 28th (advanced to mushies @ 13 days post-op), but I’m afraid to do so. I’m not really worried about eating too much – that will come later after the mushy stage is over. I’m more concerned with slowing down what little progress I’ve made on shakes alone! I have not had any mushy foods today – just my Protein Shakes.

Both Wed & Thurs I did have mashed potatoes for lunch & pureed chicken salad for dinner. The potatoes went down well enough, but the chicken seemed lodged in my chest unless I took tiny sips of Water between bites. And we're not supposed to live on potatoes, nor are we to drink while eating!

The day is officially done—and I have yet to do anything but DRINK MY FOOD! The last of the potatoes & chicken salad sit untouched in the fridge, just as I left them yesterday. I don’t even want to think about eating!

I fully intend to begin again tomorrow with the mushy transition (tuna perhaps), but I can’t bring myself to face it tonight…

I was banded on 3/1 and I wish I had restriction! I want to eat the world.

My port is sore as heck and petruding (I hope that is does not stick out like it is doing right now) as a matter of fact that is the only pain I have and it is bad enough to take the pain meds.

Has anybody eleses port petruded or looked like a lump just after surgery?

I know the band is in place because I saw it on the xrays.

I had my Band on the 15th & my doc took off the last of the steri-strips on the 28th. 3 of my 5 sites are puffy, and the long port incision does 'stick out' more than the other 2. I've also had a reaction to the strips themselves, being fair with sensitive skin. Ouch - these things itch & look mad red, but I'm told all is well! I continue to have 'port pain' when I stretch, twist, bend, or lift, but I'm also told that is a common pain to have post-op. The port site is the only spot that hurts now, unless I scratch one of the others , but it is much improved from right after the surgery. In fact, I have found myself waking up on my tummy 3 mornings in a row now! :notagree Wahoo!!!

You all sound as though you are really motivated and doing great! It helps to read all of these posts, get ideas, and hear that you are not alone in this endeavor.

The liquid stage is hard, and like I said, I love all of your food ideas!

Hi, I was banded on 2/20. Since Tuesday I have been able to start eating "soft foods." I weighted Friday morning and I noticed a 1.5 lbs weight gain. Since I knew I was still healing, I really wasn't expecting weight loss, but I don't want to gain weight either.

Most soft foods, I notice are higher carbs. I had been out a lot this week so I was getting a lot of mashed potatoes and Soup, etc. So, I went grocery shopping and bought more vegetables and some ground turkey. My appetite is coming back, but I am making sure that I watch my portion size.

I still have weeks until my first fill. What are you guy doing between banding and your first fill? Anyone else having this problem.

Hi,

I was banded 2/27, and I am sore at my port site but otherwise doing ok. My hubby is on crutches so I'm having to do alot of running. Picked up our checks payed bills, and making him meals. Doing the grocery shopping and having everything put in small bags. The only restriction the dr. gave me was not to lift over 10 pounds and if I drive I have to get out and walk every hour. Well, Yesterday was exhausted. So today is the first day I could even sit at computer and say hi. My doctor has me on full liquids for 20 days, so won't even get to puree until day 21.

I just started mushie foods and immediately gained a pound also. I am still eating less than 800 calories per day but... I don't eat the high carb stuff though. I have had scrambled eggs for Breakfast (eggbeaters 3/4 cup), 1/4 cup tuna with ff mayo for lunch, v8 snack, tilapia fillet cooked in olive oil and garlic and herbs with 3 tablespoons of meatless, pastaless lazagna, and a sf fudgesicle for evening snack. That's what my day is like with lots of Water in between. I haven't calculated the Protein count - though I should - but since it is mostly Protein I haven't supplemented with anything else. Given what I am eating I can't imagine I won't go back to losing. Incidentally I am pretty full all day except just before bed.

So to answer you question, I think it is normal when you go from liquid to food you gain a little bit - no matter what you eat.

I have 3 weeks until my first fill (banded on 2/7). I am hungry and can eat almost anything. I am also worried about gaining. It is hard to have the willpower that I need. That is how I became overweight to begin with. I am trying to exercise - but I am probably not doing enough. I think you are on the right track by watching Portion Control. We all know how important that is. Good Luck!

I was banded on February 12. My steri-strips have all fallen off or been removed. This morning I noticed what looks like a stitches sticking up through the end of my port incision. It looks like short plastid threads (kind of like fishing line or a very thin version of the kind of plastic that they use to affix labels to new clothes). Has anyone else noticed this?

Debbie

It will be 3 weeks this tuesday that I was banded. I very rarely am hungry which is great. The only thing i am worried about is my sugar keeps staying in the upper 300's. I was never on insulin and now i am afraid i may have to go on it. The reason I got the band was the fear of going on insulin. Did anyone else have this problem. I am hoping my body is just adjusting to the band and it will be back to normal soon. Cause when I was on Optifast it was great. Thanks

My sugars were also on the high side right after surgery-I was 118 at my house before I left, then 154, 200 and 201 next morning...they gave me some insulin...was kinda freaked....but its better the last 2 days 99-107-

I also had the privelige of being held "hostage' in recovery room for 8 hrs....no beds available....but we survived....feeling a little more human today....:clap2:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
