silry - I am not sure what to tell you. I have extreme tummy grumbling the last 2 days also and I had surgery on the 20th. So far today isn't bad but tonight it will be. I am supposed to do Clear Liquids until tuesday but I go back to work on monday. I think on Monday I will switch to full liquids otherwise I will not be able to focus at work at all. I am basically trying to stay on clear liquids as long as possible.

Hi Silry. I am not sure what point you are at in the process of getting surgery. I am only on the 4th day of pre-op. So you are probably ahead of me. I will have surgery the 7th of Mar. Even though it has only been 4 days without food, I think I am having a better day today. Are you on liquids only? I have been on Slimfast Optima, and sugarfree fatfree liquids. It sucks! I am finding out how addicted to food I really am. Not a pretty picture. I'm not sure about your pre-op and post-op, but I have to do this for two weeks. Then it will be the fifth week after surgery when I can reintroduce solid foods. Have to build up to them slowly. Liquids, then creams, then mushies. I know this is hard for you but I keep seeing all the people that have done it and are glad they did. I want to get there too and I bet you do to. Even though it's only the 4th day, my scale is moving downward. I will never see the amount I saw on there four days ago. Find positive things to look for. I am trying to think what it will be like to get rid of this huge gut that stares me in the face every day. Some have encouraged me to look at the end results. I know that is hard when you think you are starving. Drink all you can to help stave that hunger off. You can do this. My support group keeps telling me its not forever, just keep trudging through one day at a time. I am trying to do some extra cleaning out to keep me extra busy. Trying to take on a project every day. Take care. keep us posted, we care.

Hey Sugarbear, I don't know who you are referring to re the week after band removal, But when I was banded the hospital staff told me about a man who was banded, and requested to have it removed the next day!:) The surgical team had to do it, due to patient rights etc. What a waste of time and money!

Hey Feb bandsters, have any of you forgotten to sip your fluids and have chugged it accidently? It is summer here and I was so hot that I forgot to sip the Water. I felt no ill effects from it, I just felt stupid. Anybody else done this?

Hi Lee and babygirl.......just wanted to tell you that I was banded on valentine's day and just went out to eat today for the first time!!!

We went to Red Lobster and I was soooo hungry!!! I ordered the lobster and shrimp fest plate. The lobster was tiny and I was able to eat all of it. The shrimp....12 of them...I ate 2...chewing them until pulverized. yum

a few bites of baked potato and I was done......Everything came home in box. I felt like I could have eaten the whole thing, but kept remembering to save it for later. Also, my husband, who ate a huge dinner...salad, biscuits,,and alllllllll was finished. So now I have a great snack waiting in my fridge. It was a fun outing....YEA!!!

sugarbear, i am 3 days post op - banded 2.21.07. my paperwork said in bold capital letters that i would NOT BE HUNGRY FOR A WEEK AFTER SURGERY. hahahah. they LIED. i was hungry on day 2!!! it's just very frustrating, having your tummy grumble so loudly it annoys your doggie and there being nothing you can do about it... the broth just calms it down for a few moments. :phanvan i know i have no choice but to do this... it's just so lonely and frustrating, feeling like you are all alone and nobody understands or cares. my hubby has been a DOLL though. i heart him.

good luck to you!!!!

Hi All!

I was banded on 2/19 in Northern NJ and I am feeling very good! Still have a little gas in the morning, but am up and around. The only other problem that I have is the extreme bruising on my abdomen! It looks like someone beat me up. Has anyone experienced that! I can chalk it up to my fair Irish skin I guess. I am still on clears, but did have some watered down Tomato soup...it was great! Hope all of you are recovering well.:)

Sirly - What kind of Protein Shakes are you drinking? I was on the Slim Fast Optima and now i'm on Carnation instant Breakfast and those make me feel pretty full. I also had stomach grumbling/bubbles but i ignore it for the most part b/c they would come and go... I actually still get them from time to time.

I keep wondering if i'm REALLY hungry or is it all in my head. I realize i'm mostly wanting food when i smell some reallllly good food being cooked or if i actually -see- it. It's usually those times when i start to crave it.

I also notice that I want to eat b/c i am bored in this house. I want to eat out of HABIT and not hunger. I just feel like i SHOULD be eating... blah!

Silry,

How long do you have to be on clear liquids? I only had to do 3 days clear liquid after surgery, and then I was allowed to move to full liquids, like creamy Soups, blended really well so there aren't any chunks, Tomato juice, skim milk, Protein Shakes, etc. My very favorite thing was the Campbell's Soup at hand soups and the Campbell's Select Golden Butternut Squash soup.

The first thing I had was cream of broccoli soup, blended to smithereens, and I thought I'd died and gone to heaven, it was SO good.

Hang in there, you'll get through this, just like we all do. (((hugs)))

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
