February 2007 bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Hi, I just wanted to join up with the February group. I will be banded on Friday (9th) in Monterrey Mexico with Dr. Zapata. I am extremely nervous! Maybe scared is the word. I've posted elsewhere that I am a nurse and have been the OR thousands of times, but never as the patient. I so want this, but just keep getting weepy and more nervous as the time gets closer.

Anyway, I am hoping for the best and will update you all as soon as I can.

Thanks,

wanna be thin and travel girl

It will get easier every day! Hang in there, it will all be worth it!

I also remember reading somewhere that when you are banded you want to drink teppid Water not real cold initially.

I am so excited, I can bearly contain myself. I have such high hopes for this, I've seen several of my friends have the bipass, but I like th band idea better. But I've never met anyone with the band, and am so glad to have found this forum.

Thanks! Pam.... I thought each day would get better and I guess it is. What I'm having now isn't bad just bothersome and curious of what is going on.... I'm going to walk a lot after work and see if that helps.

Hi b russell,

Do you know if your hiatal hernia repair added extra time to your recovery or made it more painful? I know I have a hiatal hernia :paranoid which will be repaired at the same time as banding so I am wondering if I should plan on extra pain meds and time for this.;) My band date is Monday, Feb. 12 so the anxiety meter is going up.:)

Thanks,

Terri

Well ladies and gents I am home. I am also in quite a bit more pain than I thought I would be in. I have been walking around and I am missing my morphine though.

I guess when i woke up in the OR right after my surgery I looked around and said "wow I am f--king alive" Pretty funny stuff.

Hi Terri,

I am pretty sure that the hernia has extended my recovery time. Six days later, I am still exhausted and have some pain though nothing too bad. (I have been off of pain killers since day three). Honestly though - it's not that bad... It all kind of lumps together with everything else. That being said, I never had any of the symptoms associated with an HH so probably couldn't pinpoint them anyway. What are they, anyway?

Try not to be too anxious! I know that I was nauseous every time I even thought about the surgery beforehand and, in retrospect, the anxiety about the unknown was WAY worse than anything I experienced afterwards. In spite of my longer bounce-back time, I am totally LOVING this. Wierd huh?

You'll do GREAT! Let me know if you have any other questions.

B.

I've heard that the gas-x doesn't work so much, heating pad and walking are supposed to be better.

Jen

Gas-X did NOTHING for me! What helped was having one of those microwavable beanbags to lie on and a friend to stretch my shoulders back. My heating pad has also become my new bestfriend!

Hi Feb Crew, Congrats to Bbaygrl and others who are now banded.:)

Yesterday I cried and cried. I think the enormity of what I have just gone through has kicked in. Is it normal to have an emotional meltdown? Susannah

I want to cry and cry now. Probably partly because I feel like sh*t and my husband is at work and I am home with the kids. I need someone to babysit me. The part is due to the fact that I feel this way and I did this to myself.

I am sure the emotions are normal. I was having really bad meltdowns last week due to the fact that I wanted to eat and could only have Optifast.< /p>

I am feeling good. Got home about 11:00 this morning. I wanted to move in at the hospital. It was like a 5 star hotel with a nurse. I had my own private nurse for days and nights. I'm not even hungrey yet. I have had some decaff coffee about a half cup. Cranberry apple juice and a SF Jello. The gas has hit today. But nothing so for that I can't live with. I haven't had to take anything for pain all day. I took a nap from 11:30 to 3:30.

What did you dr say about stairs? My computer is downstairs. Of course DH's wireless connection would not work on his lap top. So I had to come downstairs to update all.

Joan

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
