February 2007 bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Is there anyone out there with a February surgery date? I found out last week that mine is on February 1. Was shooting for December 06, then hoping for January 07, now thankful it's finally set for February! My surgery is scheduled with Dr. Malley in Kansas City.

So sorry, I forgot to delete myself from this thread! Dr. Malley had me scheduled for February 1st and then a week later they called with a cancellation on January 18th. I couldn't come up with a good reason not to change so now I'm a January bandster....typing that here makes me feel like a traitor! How did you like the seminar? I'm really excited, and nervous all at the same time. I keep trying to eat slower and not as much, but dang, it's my last weeks of big bites with drinks! Dr. Malley's office said to go on a low fat diet a couple weeks before the surgery and then clear fluids the day before. I'm definitely cutting back a lot and will hit it harder this week. Keep in touch, I check out the Malleysurgical website occasionally but not usually much action there!

That is exciting!!!!!!!! I thought he was quite funny.... I liked the way Darlene put it to you straight, and there was a woman there who is a patient who is 6 months post op.. and she has lost 92 lbs...

There was a lot of discussion on WHITE BREAD...... I got lucky to get an appointment so soon, and I have my stack of paperwork ready to go....

Are you insurance or self pay?

My insurance will cover it. I went to the seminar the first part of June 2006, long story short, it took till December to get approved. Had to have a psych eval, 3 months dietician, also had to prove that I was overweight for more than 5 years. I say insurance will cover it but basically it should only cost me about $2,000. Shouldn't say only, that's still a lot but really thankful it's not the full amount! I go on Wednesday to get all the tests done at Menorah....not sure what all it consists of but do know a blood test, ekg and consult with anesthesiologist. Hope all works out well for you and keep me posted!

Yeah... Mine is going to cost a minimum of 2K, even with insurance... but like you said it is much better than 16.5K

I'm also having mine done at Menorah... (BCBS in network) I'm heading out in a few minutes to his office for my appointment.. I'm EXCITED

I havn't gotten a date yet, but they told me that Feb. looks pretty good!! I have my nutrition assesment Friday and maybe my Sphyc then too or the 18th! I am going in to give them the money tomorow while my wife is having surgery to remove a couple of ovarian cysts (gotta kill some time somehow) and maybe I can get some info then.

Wish me luck

Chris

I'm hoping for a Feb date... am doing the 14 day treatment for H Pylori right now after being tested and have my psych eval and an upper GI on the 25th of Jan... that should finish all the hoops I have to jump through... After that, being a self pay, I should be able to get a Feb date...

I go back and forth between being glad my surgeon is so complete in his pre-op requirements to thinking "geez, I could have gone to MX and had this done last month for 2/3 the cost..."

Welcome Chris and Heather!

I'm crossing my insurance clad fingers that I can get a date early in Feb!

The insurance coord at my docs office is also a nurse, so she only does insurance stuff on Tuesdays and Thursdays...... My doc does his bands on Tues & Thurs... and I HOPE to be on his list SOON!

Good luck Greg!!!

Wish I had a date! I went in and paid my bill today for the surgeon 6204.00 + 200 for something else!! Maybe this will get me in a bit sooner.

BTW, my wife's surgery came out great. Doc got everything all cleaned up she seems to feel pretty good

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
