Have to be re-sleeved!

I havent updated in almost 3 yrs, I was sleeved after a band slippage in nov.2010...i lost 25 lbs during the first month, and have gained 18 of that back...I have suffered from continuous reflux since the sleeve, and asked the doc to scope me and make sure my esophogus is ok...he told my friend while i was in recovery that I have a hiatal hernia and he have to revise my sleeve...he said i was one of the first ones he did and it doesnt look the same...i also have this lump that keeps pushing on the inside of my stomach like it is trying to pop thru my skin...it is about the size of a baseball...he said he thinks my body is rejecting the mesh?? (he left inside where he took the port out) My question is, Has anyone on here been resleeved, and how did it go? thanks for any feedback, im so scared.....vicki

what is considered alot of sleeves?

Very strange. So you were a crash test dummy basically? A living cadaver for the OP? It seems outrageous and his advice now makes little sense to me. I would get a second opinion. And then I would seriously consider getting a lawyer.

I had a hernia become incarcerated a few years ago and it was a baseball type lump protruding hard and sore from my tummy. That sounds frighteningly similar. I ended up in intensive care with that, it is life threatening. Please go to a new doctor and get this checked out properly.

A ballpark is about a thousand so 150 sounds pretty low for a bariatric surgeon that does weight loss surgeries especially if you had yours done in 2010! So 150 since then?

Sound like he was not fellowship trained and just decided to start doing these procedures. Fins someone fellowship trained at a reputable school.

I live in Buffalo Ny..there r a couple more docs that do the sleeve' date=' but they all started at the same time...[/quote']

My doctor is great with correcting these things. He's on Long Island at Winthrop, a short drive (when it comes to your life) from buffalo. Let me know if you need more info

In the long term study I found, some patients experience growth of a neofundus. Maybe you were sleeved correctly, but this neofundus may have grown since then.

Here's an article with pics:

The mesh is a different issue. Mesh hernia repairs are tricky.

If you can get a second opinion, that would make you feel better.

You don't have to travel to get a second opinion. Reach out to another dr - there are excellent ones in Standford and Cedar Sinai in California and I'm sure plenty is the NY area.

You just have to send them your test results electronically and they will advise.

Just the fact that he is not sure the bump is your mesh or not is very bad sign. He should know exactly what's Going on before he opens you up again.

Please please get a second and third opinion before making a decision.

Lynda, i did look up your link to neofundus...that is why i went in to see him, because my reflux is so bad...hopefully I will know more tomorrow, im gonna ask for a barium swallow...

Let us know Vicki. I will be thinking of you.

Lynda

ok, I am from Buffalo. There a ALOT of hospitals there, and I KNOW there is someone who can help you. get on the internet and start searching! Buffalo General, ECMC, , SIster Hosp, ST, Joes, so many, keep looking. This is so important for your health!

I'm just curious as to who your surgeon is. I had Hoffman and I LOVE him. But I also ask a lot of questions... But there are a lot of surgeons doing it in buffalo now. Hoffman did my band to sleeve revision in one step and it has been a piece of cake as far as recovery!

It's in her signature, her surgeon was Aaron Hoffman.

Vicki,

Please don't let all of this scare you. Everyone here is pulling for you and giving their experiences/ information. It may or may not apply to you. But the good news is that you are doing something about it! And I think looking into a second opinion is a good thing. It's something everyone should do when considering a surgery that you little information on.
