I am on day 4 of my new life. Although I dont really count days 1 & 2... I was sedated because I was so nauseaus. Got 30oz in yesterday so was released from the hospital. Never thought it would be so hard to drink 30oz lol... have to get to 60/day so I can start puree diet.

Mamachef so glad to see you are out of the hospital and doing well. I have my surgery date with Dr. Kim on the 16th. Maybe I will see you at one of the support meetings :)

We should get together when you are recovering! It will be nice to have someone going through similar timelines.

Hiya, Sassy! I prefer Protein powders mixed with light soy milk. I tried a couple of the RTD ones and I can't stand the smell! It made me gag while I was trying to drink it. I'm not sure about the cheese sticks question. It really depends on your prescribed diet. I'm about halfway (YAY!!! didn't realize that till now lol) through my preop and haven't had a speck of cheese. I'm basically on Protein drinks and brothy Soups.

I'm going back and forth on the blender issue myself. A friend loved her magic bullet, although she used it for making baby food. She said it's great for individual meals. Some people seem to get y just fine without anything special but I need convenience too. I have read that the difference between the nutribullet and magic bullet doesn't justify the price difference.

Good luck!

Thanks, ShanRN. I have been doing a lot of research into Protein Drinks, and I'm going to order the Dymatize Elite whey Protein Isolate - Gourmet vanilla. It is probably pricier than most, but highly rated in every area. All that, plus it tastes great. I figure if I'm going to give up food, I might as well have something I enjoy. As to the Bullet. I did find an incredible buy on a Bullet like blender at half the normal price, but I don't remember where it was. if I find it I'll repost.

Hello all, I was sleeved on Aug 2nd and checking in. I was able to come home the following evening. So far the recovery has not been terrible, but I do become weak pretty easily. Hopefully when I am able to get more Protein in my energy will increase. :)

Had surgery on Monday. Today is Wednesday and I'm about ready to go home from the hospital. Still pretty sore but overall feel good. Can't wait to get home. One word of advice... Bring Chapstick! Lips will be really dry after the intubation and you can't drink for a bit. It will do you wonders. Do not forget the Chapstick! You'll thank me later.

Hey everybody!! One week to go and getting excited! I started my liquid diet today and ended up crying in a Chinese Restaurant. I was going to journal about it but decided to start a new blog instead! Please give it a read and see if you can relate!

MrsRaychJ,

I enjoyed reading your blog very much and commend you on your journey. One of my best friends took me to a restaurant the day before WE began my pre-op dieting! My surgery is Monday and I completely understand. Yes, SOME days tend to be better, but honestly, it truly is mind over matter. You got this! Congrats because you are on your way!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
