May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?

Recommended Posts

Hi Pink Dragoness! My NUT said that it a combination of anesthesia plus rapid weight loss that causes a high % of people to lose hair. Even folks who do not have WLS but lose lots of weight often lose their hair for a period of a few months. She also said that no vitamins' date=' supplements or regiments can prevent Hair loss if you are in the unlucky lot. My hair loss has been dramatic in the last couple of weeks and it definitely shows. I took Biotin, fish oil and mega Vitamins for months before the WLS. Oh well, small price to pay, I say. I also have a friend who lost all of her hair and eyebrows due to chemotherapy treatments for cancer. How can I complain, right?[/quote']

I hate that for you! Hope it does not last long. Buy cute hats. I will keep a look out for mine but I am still stalling. My appetite is back too. I am craving chocolate again. Hang in there

Down 49 LBS since surgery on 5/31. Unfortunately, the Hair loss started a few days ago. Seems like it's coming out in fist fulls but I have very thick hair so hoping it will stop soon before it does too much damage.

Sleeved May 15. Down 52 lbs and 4 sizes! Haven't lost any hair. Swear by my fish oil, which I have now doubled to combat dry, itchy skin.

I am definitely a slow loser but that's ok for now....I was sleeved May 6 and so far have lost 43 lbs...only down one size actually--maybe two depending on sizing method...I was wearing a 22/24 in most clothes but now 18/20...was a 2x and now a 1x...I am now 5'2" and 225 lbs...I really don't expect to go down another size until I am in Onederland :)

vicki and misslady, congrats to you both...I am curious about your loss of weight and the concurrent change in clothes size...I know everyone is different, but one thing that I am disappointed in (a little) is that I haven't changed clothes sizing much and not sure why...I had surgery May 6 and have lost 45 lbs.; I am not thrilled with how slow, but I am still glad to have the 45 lbs. gone...at the time I had surgery, I was wearing a 22/24 (mostly a 22 in pants, for example)...now I am only down 1 size; i.e., now I am wearing 18/20...mostly a 20 in pants...in tops, I was wearing a 2X and now a 1X...it's a little discouraging to think it takes me 40 lbs to lose a clothes size  I did this for the health benefits (and I am doing great in that respect), so I am not complaining--just a little perplexed

I was sleeved May 16, am down 42lbs (starting 239, today 196) and have gone from a 20/22 to a 16. If I can lose another 5 I think I could get into a 14. But people have been telling me my clothes are too big; are you sure you're buying the right size? Sometimes it's hard to know on your own - our sense of size is off-kilter. At least it is for me :)

Tigerbelle this journey is so different for us all. And sometimes it sucks when you see others doing things we want to reach. But trust the sleeve and keep following the rules "most of the time" and it will happen. One good thing about losing slow is your skin has time to keep up with the loss. For me inches have been the thing I think. i have lost 46 inches over all my body in total. If you are not tracking those do it. It helps when the scale may not eb moving that much to let you see that things are happening. My sleeve is pretty tolerable so the only things I'm having an issue with are plain Water still and salmon and shrimp (i use to love them) but my sleeve is not liking them right now. Protein Shakes and yougurt were an everyday thing for me until about 3 weeks ago, I just got burned out. For Breakfast I usually have soft scrambled egg, 1 turkey pattie and a sprinkle of cheese. I'm still drinking lots of G2. I eat more chicken than any other kind of meat and that is getting boring to me so gonna change that up soon. I snack on nuts and yes I do have cheat Snacks sometimes like a few chips, gold fish or pretzels. As far as exercise I was walking every day for about 30-45 minutes and doing light weights about 3/4 days a week at home. I have slacked up on those until I finfish some testing to determine why since surgery my heart rate is really really low in the low 40's and that is making me so tired. I weigh 189 pounds and have not lost a pound in over 2 weeks but trying not to stress it (too much anyway). My personal goal is 180. Because I had a low bmi my doctor is happy if i lose 65 pounds he would consider that a success. My highest weight last year was 248. Pre-op visit was 243. Before 2 weeks liquids I was 240 and day of surgery I was 229. So just trust the process and remember we didn't get the extra minutes on our hourglass figure over night so it takes some time for them to go away.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
