June 2013 Sleevers: Any one start their Pre-Op diet yet?

Recommended Posts

Hey gang!

Just curious if anyone has already had to start their Pre-Op diet. How is it going? Thoughts? What do you like best (Product)? What do you hate?

I'm about two weeks out til surgery, and so I started yesterday. A little early, but what can it hurt? Well....the shakes have been making me barf. That's what hurts. I wake up queazy in the morning, and its down hill from there. Sooo...I have a call in to the Nut to see what's up with all that. flavored water is doing me some good and helping with the blahs.

I hope everyone else is faring better than me.

Today is my first day of the liquid diet and I'm happily not starving. However, I'm concerned with how sugary tasting all of our options are. I did have chicken broth at lunch with a Protein Shake, but I'd love more ideas for a salty Protein option.

June 4 is my date! So excited - I feel like a 6 year old waiting for Christmas!

I agree! I think its the overly sweet that is really messing me up. I need to go get some broth. I keep forgetting about that.

My date is June 3rd, started my pre-op Monday. My pre-op consists of 30g of carbs or less a day and at least 80g of Protein a day. Can have cheese, nuts, dairy. No sugars, obviously. So I'm 3 days in, and honestly it feels a little unhealthy. I use My Fitness Pal, and my sodium numbers are pretty high, so are fats. But I don't get hungry much, and a small meal is veryyyy filling. But man I miss fruit and vegetables. And juicing! I would kill for a green smoothie right about now. It's high 90's here in Austin, Tx!!!

I've started mine. I HATE the Bariatric Advantage shakes!!! One drink of that and it almost came back up! I LOVE the Atkins shakes. I've been having broth I have to have it out of a spoon. For whatever reason drinking broth always grosses me out  Of course feeding my son makes me want to take a huge bite out of the chicken but I'm managing! I hope we all do great and shrink our livers and ourselves! :) I can't believe how quick it's coming I'm having mine on June 4th and it's really starting to hit me.

Yesterday was my first day of my pre op diet. My surgery date is June 7th. I wasn't very hungry but I do feel like I didn't get enough of anything. I only had on Protein Shake, about 5 bottles of Water, I did make a salad for lunch and beef broth for dinner. That's about it. That broth did make me a bit nauseous but I did finish it. I'm not a fan of beef broth. Now put an onion in it with texas toast and a slab of cheese and you got a winner. SORRY! lol

Today I had a Protein shake, chocolate pudding, 5 bottles of Water and hoping to have some broccoli and cheddar Soup for dinner.

I'm not doing something right.

It's very cool to see so many of you with a surgery date close to mine (June 4th). I'm looking forward to keeping up with everyone's progress!

I'm on day 2 of my pre-op diet. The meal plan is pretty liberal: 2 Protein Shakes, 1/2 cup of fruit, and two servings of meat/protein w/1 cup of vegetables. The limit is 1000 calories and 90-100 carbs. I worry that this won't be enough to empty my liver of it's glycogen stores - especially since I had a fatty, unhealthy dinner right before getting started on my pre-op diet - but I'm hoping for the best!

I find the EAS Advantedge shakes tolerable, and I'm going to try a sample of Syntrax Nectar this afternoon (their Roadside Lemonade is easy to chug right now, but I know there won't be any chugging after surgery). My boyfriend has a secret stash of chocolate and Twizzlers under the couch, so the temptation to cheat is right in my face. I'm going to stay strong, and keep reminding myself that June 4th is almost here!

Wow you guys, I am so impressed at how upbeat you all are! I am feeling like such a Debbie Downer today. I am on day 5 of my pre-op and I am MISERABLE today. Yesterday was tough, but today is the worst that it has been for me. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I'm struggling to get my Protein in. I purchased a million different kinds of Protein Powder for shakes, but I can't seem to get past the texture. This is not a new problem for me, as I have always had strange food texture issues. I am going to the store to purchase some pre-mixed shakes, even if I have to buy slim fast, so that I can pump some protein in. I am hoping that this will get easier. I am super jealous of all of you who are allowed to eat during your pre-op. I have been trying to rationalize all day why 4 oz of turkey would hurt me.... sigh. I will get through this. I have no other option! Surgery is June 5 and trust me...it can NOT come soon enough. Okay...rant over. ;)

I was trying to talk myself into "just a bite" of steak. Last night and today have been really hard. TMI but Aunt Flow is coming to town  So the cravings have set in and I have NO energy at all!!!! And I have a birthday party to go to Saturday! I'm stepping out when it comes time for the cake. Less than 2 weeks and we'll be sleeved. For whatever reason though I am making myself sick worrying that I'll wake up with no sleeve. I've been doing great on my diet but in the back of my head I'm just thinking "What if 2 weeks isn't enough?" Anyone else having this fear or am I letting my anxiety take control?

Babybearsmum - i think its anxiety. Im kind of nervous about, "What if my liver doesn't shrink?!?!" lol

1stBabeBorn5th - a soooooo totally agree with those additions to the beef broth. lol!

I cannot have any food either. other than Jello. meh. not the same. I didn't do so well on the first week (self-imposed) diet. So today is my official start day, and I am doing pretty well. Found a good shake and sticking to it.

Just a week away!!!!

Hey ladies, I start my pre-op diet today...the only shake I can stand on a regular basis is unjury, they have a few different flavors but the best are the chocolate splendor, strawberry and they have a chicken broth. Also there is a veggie Soup one too that is good and safe per my dietician it's one that doesn't curtle (she told me that some of the "hot" stuff broth wise curtles...YUCK! Here is the site I ordered it from-

https://www1.bariatricadvantage.com/catalog/list/60/Vegetable_Soup

Also the nectar Medical unflavored can be made HOT you can put it in your own chicken broth :) Don't have the link for it....just something the dietician told me.

How's everyone doing? Toda is day 8 for me and I believe I'm in ketosis. I'm not getting enough in. Plus, I keep eating. It's little things ( salad, smoothie) but it's still eating. The Protein Shakes constipate me something serious. *exhale* There's not much time left.

Also, does anyone else feel kinda numb about this? I'm not nervous nor excited

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
