how to reset your metabolism with excersize and food?

does muscle actually weight more than fat? I thought we finally put that old myth to rest, a pound is a pound the world 'round, and all that ...

As soon as I get to the States I am going to a doctor to have my T3/4/1 tested because this is just bullsheet. There is no logical reason whatsoever for a 5'3" person's body to *want* to weight 195 lbs, which I now do thanks to eating the high cals of TDEE/IIFYM. Working out 6 days a week and eating responsibly should make a body lose weight, but I'm not, and the weight I've put on since starting this is just weight, it's not dense flat muscle, my clothes don't fit better, I don't look better. I'm not giving up, I'm going to continue eating healthfully and exercising but I am pretty effing angry at the world.

A pound is a pound. It's the mass/size that is different.

Yeah, that was a comment I made. There is no reason why a person should not be able to use a fat burner, especially when at the end of weight loss or during maintain phase. Anything that helps the process should be considered.

I agree with you Fiddleman, a lot of others might not though. A lot of those fat burners are very hard on your body, that would be my only issue. When I get a chance, hopefully today, I will post what I'm taking. I might also add that I can never sleep when I take any stimulants of any sort, including coffee. Fiddleman, what do you do for diet?/supplements?/Pills?/food?, just curious, you don't have to answer. :D

I do not mind answering, if it helps someone.

Diet: Paleo, as best I can and with far more restrictions because of WLS. 6-7 meals a day where goal is 170 G Protein. I try and balance each meal with good carbs and good fats. I drink 1-1.5 gallons of Water a day to keep my system free of any kidney damage that may be caused by eating high amounts of protein. Not sure if this would happen, but better to be safe about it.

Supplements: green vibrance, Omega 3, calcium chews, B12, vita pak (GNC), d

BM: chia seeds, Miralax, coffee

Protein bars: pure protein, AMREP (after cross fit)

Protein shakes: muscle milk light cake batter (breakfast), GNC amplified Wheybolic 60 Cookies and creme (after lifting), gold standard chocolate casein (bedtime)

Protein: anything lean like chicken, lots of chicken. Beef if it is lean. Fish. Some string or baby bel cheese (I know, not Paleo)

Green drinks: green vibrance, tonic alchemy (70 different, fruits, veggies and Exotic herbs)

Pre workout: c4, occasional 5 hour energy, catalyst (amino acids)

Post workout: creatine monohydrates (5 g)

Pills: Prilosec

I used to do so much cardio (run 20 miles a week) and not so much lifting while losing weight during month 5 and 7 of post op. Now my focus in the last 3 months is building strength while maintaining a healthy BMI. To achieve this, I do mostly lifting and cross fit with hardly any steady state cardio. I am starting month 11 post op. This may not be the correct approach or work for everyone, but it is helping me move towards latest fitness goals (12 % body fat and compete in cross fit regionals next year).

I do not use a fat burner myself, but would not see it being a problem if it will help someone reach goal. One that I find helpful is hydroxycut, but there are a million different ones in target, Walgreens, Bartell Drugs, GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, Vitamin World or any other establishment that sells supplements.< /p>

I'm interested in what your wife is feeding you! Now that I don't eat that much I can afford organic, healthy, and supplemental products!

Fiddleman, thank you for that. That must have taken a minute to put together. Very interesting though. I am going to get mine together tonight and post it.

I am going to get you the information this evening. I know it sounds ridiculous that I don't know what I'm eating. But again, my wife takes very good care of me...I'm spoiled. I promise tonight I will post it all. Ms. Health Nut (my wife) does not disappoint. I keep telling her she should take it up as a profession.

The foods and supplements they offer today are just amazing, some of them. I like the idea of natural unprocessed foods, so I personally stay away from certain bars and supplements. I am also into the free-range, grass fed, beef. I don't think I can ever remember having a better burger (sorry vegetarians). I don't have a problem with eating meat, so long as it is harvested/raised humanly. I am also a strong supporter of hunting (which I don't personally do) for food, humanly. The paleo diet is just great which it seems I am inadvertently doing. I don't see how you could go wrong on that. I know the Dukan diet discusses Ketones, which sounds interesting for reseting your metabolism. In fact, that is exactly what it's suppose to do. I just can't get around eating the foods they tell you to eat, all the time.

Does anybody have any other thought's on "resetting" your metabolism? I am mostly interested in chinese herbs? Brands? Specific herbs and/or blends of herbs?

Ok. Here is what I have been taking with regards to Chinese Herbs and Superfoods, powders, supplements...etc. There is too much to write down, so I am just going to tell you the product names and you can look at them yourself. Some of the stuff she gets from a licensed herbalist. I will list the product and then the company and where she purchased the products.

1. Maca powder - Navitas Naturals - Local Health food store.

2. Natural Calm - Natural Vitality - Local Health food store.

3. Warrior Blend Raw Protien (Vanilla) - Sunwarrior - Local Health food store.

4. Total Nutrition - Immortal Herbs - www.immortalherbs.com (its a superfood powder)

5. Immortal Longevity - Immortal Herbs - www.immortalherbs.com

6. Gynostema - Local Herbalist.

7. A blend of herbal mushroom Cordyceps, Chaga, Ganoderma, and Reishi - Local Herbalist.

Keep in mind I am not a Dr. or nutritionist nor is my wife.

She just wants to keep me alive as long as possible and I love her for that. This regimen has changed my life as much as the surgery. I feel much younger and my skin has changed dramatically, I have less aches and pains (which is certainly part of having less weight on my joints). My wife says a lot of this helps reduce inflammation inside my body, and that will help me live longer. I take a herbal sleep aid from time to time, I will have to ask her the name of that, can't find it in the house right now. She has researched this stuff to no end, so I know it's good. The superfood powder, longevity herb mix, mushrooms, and Natural Calm are ones she says are super important.

I do eat ice cream (homemade) a lot more than I should. I am pretty good with everything else I eat, but I do cheat and I'm o.k. with that. We are very determined in eating Non-gmo foods and organic.

Some of this is expensive, but I eat a lot less so that helps. Does anybody else use any of these. I would like to know if you have had any of the same experiences with these products and that it's not just me.

I will have to get my stats up soon. I like looking at everybody's weight loss progress since the surgery. I'm certain you will like to see mine too.

Most of that stuff does not taste good on its own. You've been warned. But its worth it to me. And I have got used to it. It's all in the name of health right.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
