Does anyone with tattoos notice a change post surgery? Mine is on my upper back so I'm not sure if it will change. .ex. when my aunt got pregnant her tattoo on her lower belly/hip stretched out, does this happen with weight loss?

I worry about about this too. I have 5 tattoos. The one on my hip has stretched with my 2 pregnancies and 100lb weight gain.

tattoos - change post surgery?

Janice

like you said - being pregnant - gaining weight will stretch your tattoo

losing weight, you will have less skin - so the tattoo will look smaller

I have 12 right now. Where the tat is located plays a major role in how it's effected. Places like foot, upper shoulder/chest, leg, lower arm, upper back, ankle won't be as effected. Hips, stomach, ribs, butt, boob will be more effected. If you got it prior to weight gain it would have stretched with your skin. If its in an area prone to lose skin it won't bounce back as well and may have more of the deflated balloon look. If you got it after the weight gain, it might look more distorted.

I have some butterflies on my back, and I haven't noticed a difference. Well, maybe now I can turn my head and see them.

I'm rather curious about this myself. I'm holding off on getting half sleeves because I was afraid the huge weight loss would distort the artwork.

This is one of the concerns that I have had about surgery... I asked my doctor but she said she had no idea no one really had ever asked about it, but reading what you guys have said makes me feel alot better! still going to hold off on getting anymore til after i loose a majority of my weight from surgery .

I've never been brave enough for a tattoo--but I think after I reach my goal, I'll get one to Celebrate. That'll give me a year or so to plan it out!

I had two prior to surgery and they look exactly the same now as they did over 100 pounds ago. One is on my leg and one is on my breast. I just got a beautiful new one on my left shoulder to symbolize my weight loss.

I have a full upper back piece and yes it actually has spanned out farther across my shoulders and around a little so you can see it more on my shoulders and not just on my back. It may have spread like a total of 2 inches across so that's not too bad. Luckily it also doesn't look distorted... just a little bigger lol.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
