Oh boy, I'm having the sleeve in July and I'm eating to my hearts content, knowing that in just two months it will all be over. This will be my second attempt ( the band damaged my stomach so much that the surgeon removed my band and did not attempt to do the sleeve until my stomach healed.that was 7 months ago)I have vivid memories of the preop liquid diet and how awful it wad so now I'm gorging, until my preop liquid diet.. can't help it. Am I a sicko or what?

Im kind of on the same boat but my surgery is in two weeks and my doctor didnt give me a liquid diet. I had to do a 6 month work up for surgery that included meetings and stuff and also loosing 30lbs. i got down to 26 lbs lost and once I got my surgery date I kind of started to eat whatever I wanted.

How old are you? M/F? These things contribute to the amount you'll loose and how fast you'll loose it.

Omg - I never thought to call it a "food funeral" but that is exactly what I'm going through. I have been saying my "goodbye's" for the past week...ever since I realized I don't need to do the 6 months of NUT visits...I just need to submit a letter of medical necessity to my insurance. I thought this was just me...

Well everyone is different! I'm going to present a different take on it. It ain't a food funeral. All your (well, mostly all) of your 'food friends' will be available to you much later, so what are you burying? I've kinda decided that the point here for me is to learn a new relationship with food, so that's what I'm Trying to do. My Optifast starts Sunday, but I've certainly been trying to focus on Proteins, and Meal Replacement shakes for the last two/three weeks. Also, this liquid "fast" is a lot longer than two weeks -- you have to count AFTER surgery too, right??? and that'll be a Lot longer...

Bottom line, I ain't so happy with my "friend" food right now. She's got me to a bad place. She's been a trickster and a deceiver. She makes me feel good in the short run only to bring me pain in the long term. I'm not so sure I want to take her back after she's done this to me...

eating to my hearts content,

alene

WLS in July - woo hoo

sorry to rain on your parade :(

but........

now is the time to try and follow/get used to rules that you will have post op - for the rest of your life

you have WLS in about 6 weeks

drink alot of Water (64 oz is required)

NEVER drink with your meals(people have been shot for less!!! )

stop drinking 15-30 minutes before you eat

don't drink for about 45 minutes after you eat

IMO the Water "situation" rules are the hardest but most important rules to follow :(

i'm gonna give you a case of "do as I say, not as I do"

about 3 weeks prior to my WLS, my feelings of eating to my hearts contents were similar to yours

eat like there is no tomorrow

I GAINED 10 lbs

many people do eat "alittle crazy" prior to WLS - because they figure they will never eat certain foods again

you will be able to eat anything though PO at a later time

if you gain weight pre-surgery, thats all the more weight you have to take off after you have been sleeved :(

couple days before surgery - 'maybe" its ok if you "splurge" alittle (if you don't have a pre-diet to follow per NUT/surgeon)

go ahead and have those couple of sweets or something or that nice dinner - then stop!!!!!

hope you enjoyed it!!!!

you will eat again

the WLS is not the end of your life - its the beginning of your new healthier, happier, longer life!!!!

i know you will be successful before and after surgery :)

i can see B) the determination combined with your smile in your lovely face :)

see you on the other side :)

take care

happy WLS

speedy recovery

Arts137, I agree by the time I decided to do the sleeve and go thru all the pre-op stuff -- I was done with my frenemy food. It had made me miserable and was slowly stealing my life away...Forget food funerals if I didn't have this surgery it would have been my funeral!

My dietician on my last visit said no food funerals and no last meals. If I gain, it can change my approval and surgery date. Don't want to chance that!

My first consultation was 2/14 and I was sleeved 3/4. Gained almost 10 lbs in just over 2 weeks so you can only imagine.

If you eat to your hearts content then you may make it difficult for the surgeon to maneuver around with an enlarged liver. This could result in an OPEN surgery or worse complications. I have heard of Dr's canceling the surgery and postponing it until patients dropped a few pounds mainly so that the liver can be a little lighter.

I do understand you feeling this way though. A lot of people do think like this. I know I did with almost every food. My thinking was GOD help me if can't have dragonfruit or a cheese & sausage plate in a month. I was/am a HUGE foodie. I LOVE food- GOOD food. See, my problem was not eating bad/junk food. I just ate Waay too much of good food. I mean I mostly shop at Whole Foods and farmers markets. I enjoyed the company of my friends while eating too, so, food was my social friend.

What I can say is this, eventually you will be able to eat most if not all of it again, just in smaller bites. Take this time now to think of how you came to the stage where you needed this surgery to begin with. I know you had your lap band removed for various reasons ... but why did you get that one? THOSE are the reasons why you should be thinking of helping your body along to do it's best for a successful surgery and recovery. Remember food can still be your friend just not your lover.

If you can survive with the lapband, I know you will do GREAT with the sleeve. I wish you lots of luck with your upcoming surgery.

PM me if you need to chat.

Thank you everyone for the great advice and kind words. It would really be in my best interests to start getting used to to not drinking before or after meals and putting more healthy food into my mouth. I am determined this time!!! I'm going to make it!!!

You're right...this "friend" isn't so great right now, but it is great to hear I'm not alone and their is a healthier, more constructive way to view my behavior. I've worked hard to lose 60 pounds and I'm close to being approved for the surgery...I don't want to go backwards now. Getting approved and having the surgery isn't an excuse to mourn food, but a reason to keep working hard.

Thx for your insights and thx to the original poster for bringing up a great topic!!

My surgery isn't scheduled yet - I'm in month three of six months worth of visits ... but I've already been planning a last visit to Red Lobster, Olive Garden, and White Castle LOL! Not a last, last visit, but a last visit where I can go and overeat. That sounds so terrible when I say it out loud, but it's the truth!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
