I don't see the difference between drinkable yogurt and creamy Soup.

I am supposed to be Clear Liquids 7 days, creamy liquids 7 days, pureed stuff 7 days, mushy stuff 7 days.

I think the first 7 days will be the hardest. I was starving yesterday, better today. broth and juice just doesn't have any calories and I am a little weak also but not so bad. I am continuously sipping on soup or Water or juice.

I miss my Diet Coke I can tell you that. I am glad I am stopping it but sad to see it go also. I love my Diet Coke.

I find it interesting the amount of emotional attachment I have to food. Not being able to eat anything, not being that hungry and actually being afraid to eat anything is forcing me to really confront why I want food. Most of the time I want it to make me feel good.

I will be interested to see what you eat tomorrow Audree... we will be over halfway as of tomorrow!

Hi susan and Audree- welcome back - sent you many well wishes while you were away (check back at previous posts. So glad your both doing so well. I am only 10 days post-op and also still on liquids (though I am "cheating" a bit on some mushies (I know I shouldnt).

One tip that helped me during the first week was snapple makes diet ices - made from frozen snapple - very good!!! and it was a change of flavor. they have diet pink lemonade, diet orangeade, and one other, i forget. If they arent availavble in your area - you can buy diet snapple and freeze them in ice cube trays with popsicle sticks. Hope this was helpful - and hope you continue to do so well. Also, nobody warned me about this and you may not get this - but just in case I want you to be more prepared then I was. About 5-7 days after surgery - you may feel a little down in the dumps and think "g-d what did i do to myself?" but its normal and it will very soon pass. If I had known that it would have been easier, because I was an emotional wreck for a short time. Thankfully it passed and I am now feeling better. Hope it doesnt happen to you, but at least youll be prepared and you wont feel like a freak like I did. Saty well!!

Thanks SkinnyMom! My thing is I don't really have a sweet tooth and I am soooooo burned out already on the juice, gatorade, ice pops, Jello. I finally burped and it felt soooo good.I'd have this sensation that I wanted to burp and couldn't and it HURT!!!! It was a lot of pressure.

I'm starting at a lower BMI and would like to join this group. I go for my initial consult/psyc eval/meeting with dietician in 2 days. I'm a yo yo dieter and have lost and gained the same 25 lbs for the past 17 years. I'm going to stop this cycle, with the help of the lap band.

I lost 10 lbs when I was ill with the flu over Christmas, and I've been trying to get my weight back up (go figure) so that I will qualify for surgery/coverage. They said I "just barely" qualified with the 10 lbs. I feel like crap because of what I've been eating. So hope they can schedule the surgery asap. I'm encouraged by all your posts!

My insurance is blue cross/blue shield federal. Supposedly it will cover 90% of my costs as long as I have a BMI of at lease 35 and one co-mobidity (I have high blood pressure).

I know how you feel. I was supposed to be banded Dec. 18 but had to wait for my financing to come through and it did!!!!! From San Diego the driver picks you up and drives you to the hotel, then picks you up for surgery. Then drives you back to the hotel and back to the air port. I think you'd be okay to go alone. And we always meet people on these boards who are having the surgery the same day we are and meet up at the hotel. I met a really nice lady named Debi and now we call each other and will go get fills together. You may find someone to share a room when you find out your date and see if anyone else is traveling alone. Dr. Ortiz also has his own site lapbandforum.com and his patient coordinator tries to help patients match up for dates, surgeries, fills etc. Let me know if you have any questions!!! Audree

Welcome Sophie!!!

I felt like crap binging before my surgery. But, I was just getting it out of my system. The thing is it is so much easier to have to gain than lose!! Go for it!!! I can't wait to see how my journey unfolds!!

Susan, getting off the Diet Coke was the hardest habit to break! Honestly, I don't miss it EVER! I took one sip a few months ago and it was nasty. Now I drink "Vitamin Water ." The tropical citrus has natural caffeine and is yummy. I stick it in the freezer and make a slush. 20 ounces has 125 calories. That has become my big splurge. It's not too sweet, either! So just find a replacement drink that is good for you. I can't believe how much better my skin looks, too! I'm sure it is due to no more Coke!

Audree, you are doing great! Aren't you glad you did it? Well, maybe not yet. I totally understand getting sick of the sweet stuff. The options get pretty stale, but your weight-loss will soon be SO exciting that the hunger pains will diminish.

Keep it up!

Hi everyone....

I woke up hungry today. I had my coffee and am a little bit less hungry but not totally satisfied. Still not as hungry as I was on Sunday but I am very happy it is Day 4/7 of my clear liquids.

I went a long time without Diet Coke in my 20's... maybe 7 years or more. I am glad I am getting off of it! I know the only way I would stop drinking it is if I really had to. Since I am not drinking pop anymore I won't retain as much Water and I bet my skin will get a lot better like Boo's.

I really am happy with how I feel. Surprised and happy. My soreness is about 60% gone and I have no gas pain anymore. If I lay on my left side I can feel some pain where the port is, so I don't lay on my left side on purpose.

I was watching my poor OSU Buckeyes getting squashed by Florida last night and thinking about how I would like some pizza. I was not hungry in the slightest. If anything, this fasting period is very valuable for teaching me to recognize when I am having head hunger vs. real hunger. I am amazed at how often food pops into my head just as an association with an event or feeling. Really I thought I was always hungry but now I think a lot of it has to do with food makes me feel good.

That's all the news that's fit to print on my end this morning. How is everyone else today?

Thanks Boo!! The Vitamin Water slushie sounds good! I like those and they are good for you! I will have to go get some! I am glad I did it and feel a lot better today. My nutrionist gave me the okay to eat watered down cream Soup. I felt like I was going to pass out. I just went to bed early out of being so tired. But, I find I wake up at 6 am now!!

Anyone else waking up ealier??? I never did that before.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
