Need positivity from post op peeps!

Recommended Posts

Ok, I'm getting sleeved on Wesnesday, and I have just been reading too many negative posts on here! Starting to stress me out! I need some seriously positive good vibes to get me through the surgery and the recovery. I've been a long time coming to this choice, and I think I'm ready. Just need to be pumped up for surgery. Attitude is (almost) everything, right!? Any veterans or newly sleeved folks got some good vibes and encouragement to send my way? I'd sure appreciate it!!! :)

Attitude is everything! :) this is a major change in lifestyle but that's what we signed up for! I'm not skipping for joy 24 hours a day. But it's the best thing I could of done for myself. I am off of high blood pressure meds and I walked through life lighter in body and in mood.

It's really different being in public now... It's easy, and conversation comes easier there is no longer this big anti social suit of fat barring me from being part of normal life..

It will be a bit painful and there will be baby tantrums (at least there was in my case)

But there will be health and happiness with yourself waiting on the other side :)

Good luck to you this week!

Sending you lots and LOTS of positive and happy thoughts!

I am 7 weeks out and am SO HAPPY with my decision to be sleeved. I was sleeved on 3/13/13 in Tijuana, Mexico. I had a beautifully easy recovery and transitioned through all stages of my post op diet with ease. The month of April I had a slow loss of only 3 pounds.. but that was because I lost SOOOOO much in March.. AND I had been on 800 calories since December! My body was ready for a stall!.. And already in May I've lost two pounds.. You just have to be patient and trust the process.

Attitude really IS everything! If you've been a long time coming to this choice, then you've done your research and it's led you here, to being sleeved. Take a deep breath in and prepare to embrace the new lifestyle you've WILLINGLY CHOSEN to embrace! How empowering is that?

After six months of being sleeved, I love that I'm in control of my health and well-being. I sit in booths, I wear blue jeans, and I can go to the movie theater and NOT have to use TWO seats! Today, I ran a twelve minute mile. Yes, this fat girl that weighed 489lbs one year ago!

Still nervous or bothered by those negative posts? :)

Just think of all YOUR personal goals and remember that we're all pulling for you! Sending positive vibes and well wishes your way, Mamamareli!! :) :)

Here's one of your Positive Peeps!!!! I'm 9 months out and I am still on cloud 9! It is so life changing, I can't put it into word, except hands down THE best thing I EVER did for myself.

Are the first few weeks/months a HUGE adjustment, YES. Is it shocking that you can barely sip Water, YES! Is it all worth it, YES! Keep positive thoughts, envision yourself coming through healthy, strong & skinny ;). I have not had 1 complication or set back (besides needing to stay an extra night in the hospital because of the horrible nausea from pain meds). I've had stalls and gaining back a pound or 2 only to lose 5 the next time I get on the scale.

I'm now training for my first half marathon (walking - not running! :) and I'm having the life I always knew (and used to live) was there. I'm back to being social again with friends (at 350lbs I didn't want to go anywhere), dating (yikes!) and just appreciating and enjoying life and being part of life again. Like I said, best thing ever and I have nothing but positive, wonderful things to say about the sleeve.

You'll get to where I am and think "what was I ever so worried about"! Tell you the truth I can't really remember the difficult part in the beginning, it's realitvely such a short amount of time compared to the rest of your life!!!!

Good luck and congrats!

Hang in there, you will go to sleep and a wonderful deep sleep to wake up to a new life style. Yep, you will be on your way to a skinny body and better health. Can't wait for you to join us on the BIG LOSER'S BENCH! :)

I was sleeved on 12/26 and have never looked back. There will be rough times but they don't last. This is a life changing event and you won't regret it. Attitude makes a big difference and you seem to have a positive one.

Use this forum as a way to learn things / good and bad. Not everyone has a great experience but I truly believe if you maintain a positive attitude you will come out ahead. You can do this!!!!

Here, here .. Positive peep here too! The minute I got to hospital I was flying high on attitude and haven't let myself down yet. I went in positive saying the minute I wake up I'm walking any pain away and getting my life on track. No pain at all and walking and vacationing the day after surgery. Near 5 months now and not an issue to be had.

Heh, to be honest.. I think I willed myself no pain or issues because I didn't want my husband and son to be able to say the dreaded "I told ya so" so.. I set my mind over matter and I couldn't be happier. This was my last resort so I'll be damned if I'm going to fail and be miserable the rest of my life. I AM GOING TO BE HEALTHY AND HAPPY and so are you

I love my sleeve and like others say.. I'd do it again in a heart beat. You're going to do fine and even if you happen to have a little pain it's workable.

Ok, I'm rambling.. But it's a positive ramble ;D

Thank you for this post. I go on Thursday and suddenly yesterday and today have started freaking out about it. I know it's normal but I'm not the freak out type. I don't know how I will get through the next few days. At least Monday I have work to think about again. I think the weekend is giving me too much thinking time.

Had my sleeve on 4/23/13 and although I'm not that far out, I was able to discontinue my Water pill (and potassium supplement) and my BP pill was decreased to half the original dose. This was all while still inpatient! The weight is dropping of and for the first time in many years, I have a positive outlook for the future. Good luck to you!

Keep going I was having second thoughts up to the point of "take a deep breath and u are going to sleep". Woke up 2 hours later and it was done! No turning back now! Glad I did it with no regrets !

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
