Is Dr Dewar the only doctor in South Africa doing banding? I live in Cape Town and have been desperately looking for a Dr to do the surgery, with very little help. I actually emailed Dr Dewar but he didn't know anybody in Cape Town. Any suggestions?

Hi, There is Dr Brombacher in Pietermaritzburg - KZN, he's done many bands. Would you be interested in coming to KZN?

Thanks for that Carrin. I am just a little worried about living so far from the doctor that did the op. Nervous about what happens If I am back at home in Cape Town and there is a problem or I need a fill. Surely there must be someone in Cape Town. I am going to try the accedemic hospitals and see if they can help. But thanks I appreciate your input.:smile:

thanks --- how did your op go ? are you in pain ?

I have heard that with lapband they only expect you to loose half your excess. So... you are 140 and wanna be 70 so you therefore the theory is that u will loose 35kgs which will make you 105kg.

I just wonder if that IS what happens in reality.

How much was your op ?

thanks for sharing all the info

Hey,

Got banded last week Friday, 15 May 2009. Well I'm in the recovery period so I'm taking it easy. Following the liquid diet & walking everyday. Don't feel pain...just got blue marks on me tummy. Went to the Doc today to remove the plasters.

I think everyone's body will react diff to the band. Hopefully I lose a lot more than 35kgs. I see the band as a tool. So if I follow a reasonable diet & join the gym (Doc recommended a personal trainer) I think it'll turn out fab. Got to change my lifestyle lol & I'm so use to being well a "slob"

Total cost R75000

You getting banded soon?

Hi

I was just wondering if you could possibly help me by giving me some information on Dr in South Africa and maybe the cost involved?

Hi,

Which area in South Africa are you looking at going to?

I am going to be in Durban in Dec and was wondering if there are any lapband Dr's in the area in case I encounter any problems and need an unfill. Hopefully I will be fine but i would like to be prepared and have names and numbers just in case.

Hi, yes good idea. My band Dr lives an hours drive from Durban. I will PM you his office number and mine in case you need it. I know he'll be working up until 22 December '09.

Thanks for that. That's another thing ticked off on my list of things to do. I love holidays but i hate all the preparation beforehand. I also hate the journey to get there. Flying is not my favourite thing especially not with a teenage son who gets airsick!

Hi

well my Parents live in Brits i Teach in UAE and should be doing it when i go home for summer holiday. JHB or PTA would be a good area from me:)

Hi All

I am going to be in Cape Town from Dec to end of Jan. I have very good restriction at the moment - so do not want an asperation before my flight, which I am sure my nurse will want me to have. I need a to find a Dr in Cape Town just incase I have an issue when I get there due to the very long flight from the UK.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks
