For those of you who are post-op and used Dr. Aceves, Can I ask you a few questions...please forgive my silly questions.

1. Did your spouse/family member/friend stay with you the whole time, or did they have a hotel room they went back to while you were in the hospital?

2. If they stayed, is there a cafeteria there or somewhere for them to get meals?

3. Do the rooms have bathroom/showers for them to use?

4. Did the hospital have Wifi?

5. Were you pleased with Dr. Aceves?

6. Any tips of things you didn't think to bring, but wish you had?

7. Did you have any issues with any of the staff not knowing English (should I seriously learn the phrases he sent in the patient info?)

8. Is the area around the hospital pretty safe for my spouse to get and walk around alone? I know he'll get bored just sitting in the hospital..ha!

I still have 80 to go to my "goal" of 160) and getting well hydrated, and starting to get into routine of taking Vitamins, and reviewing different Protein shakes

Hello! I got sleeved on 4/1/13 by Dr Aceves. I actually went alone though. There is a cafeteria at the hospital. As well as a 7-11 type convenience store a block away and a huge mall 4 blocks away. Everywhere takes USD dollars. You will get a private room with a shower, so your family member/friend would use it. The hospital does have Wi-Fi. There was a small period of hours in which it wasn't working that great. They have a lot of things that you may forget including slippers and heating pad. They give you a cute toiletry kit that includes a toothbrush, soap, shampoo, etc... There wasn't one thing that I needed that I didn't have. There is a slight language barrier especially with the night time nurses since the patient coordinators aren't present; however, you can point to the phrase on your sheet OR use babelfish or something else on your cell phone/Wi-Fi that will translate from English to Spanish. I was pleased with Dr. Aceves as he checked in with me personally on average 3 times a day. He is personable. If you feel like you have a question on need something explained, don't hesitate to ask until it is clarified. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

1. My husband stayed with me in the hospital. He slept on the couch. It was pretty comfortable. He did have the option to rent the hotel for extra nights and stay there but it wasn't bad at the hospital.

2. food at the cafeteria was good he said. I never got a chance to try it out though.

3. The hospital rooms have their own private bath and shower. My hubby didn't have any complaints with the bathroom.

4. I'm not sure, but I think they do have wifi.

5. Dr. Aceves was great. The doctors checked in on me like 2-3 times a day. If it wasn't Dr. Aceves, it was Dr. Campos.

6. Bring some PJs and a warm robe. This way u don't have to worry about ur behind showing while u do ur walking in the hall way. I brought pj pants that were very loose and comfy. U don't want anything tight.

7. No issues, but then again, I speak spanish. I don't think u have too worry abt this too much as the staff deals with this constantly. I believe they pretty much understand some English phrases by now.

8. The other patients that had surgery the same day went shopping. I didn't bc I didn't want to push it. Not for safety reasons but overdoing it even though I felt pretty good. I just thought it be better to take it easy.

Let me know if u have any other questions. I was pleased with my experience with Dr. Aceves and his staff. The only down side is being so far from the doctor when u get back home. I would of felt better having a follow-up with him in person but I didn't want to travel again. But I survived and feel good. I'm from San Antonio, Tx.

Hi, I went alone, but several other people had someone with them. They slept on the couch in your room. There is wi-fi but I didn't use it much. You really won't need to bring nearly as much as you think. They give you a gown but my surgery was 8/31and I found it too warm so I was glad I had brought a pair of PJs (shorts). I put them on the day after surgery. I think it was better than the nightgown I also used since it made it easier for the docs to see the incisions. I recommend bringing a sports bra that is bigger in the band size than what you usually wear. I was so swollen for the first couple days I couldn't wear the one I brought. I am top-heavy so it made my walks very uncomfortable. As MzMeka said, in the evenings there can be a language barrier, but I would just show them my "cheat sheet" or pantomine and we figured everything out with a laugh.

My sleeve sister and I went across the street to get some extra pantazol to bring home. They give you one box to take home, but I wanted to use the grains they used while my tummy healed. I can't remember how much it was for a box, I got two. I got extra supradol (pain meds) too but that was a waste of money. I never needed it. They give you one box. I think I used one tablet for my flight home, and that was more preventive than because I was in pain.

There is a cafeteria and several restaurants in the area. I know several of the guys went there for meals, and a couple went shopping. They never mentioned feeling unsafe.

Dr Aceves, Dr Campos, and his staff are amazing! They all sit down with you one-on-one and really talk with you before surgery and after. The anesthesiologist and one other doc did too. I can't remember what his job was, but I was impressed with the amount of time they took with me.

I don't have a single regret. Follow his protocol for after-care and food and you will do great!

1. My mom came and loved the couch. It was big and comfy.

2. There is a cafeteria on site and a Chinese restaurant across the street along the border. My mom enjoyed their food, the portions are huge.

3. Private bathroom/shower in your private room.

4. Free wifi. They will give you access upon request.

5. Dr. Aceves and his team were excellent. I am very pleased.

6. Pack light and comfy. As soon as I showered I was back in my own clothes.

7. I got to practice my Spanish with those who were practicing English. Google translate bridged any gaps we couldn't on own.

8. The only indoor "walking" I did was to make my way to the outdoors. We walked all over. Even to the mall, which is a loooooong four blocks.

I also went to Dr.Aceves and see your questions wer,e answered. I only had an issue once with what one of the nurses was asking me, he went and got his iphone and translated it haha. Besides that, we had no issues. They were all fantastic!

I just had surgery with Dr. Aceves on 4/1 at the same time with Tameka. I can add a lot to the list other than noting that Hotel Lucerna is a ways from the hospital so it might be best if your hubby can stay with you in the room. My friend Gracie came with me and she said the couch was comfy... she also speaks spanish so that problem was solved too! Dr. Aceves is a wondeful surgeon and he is also very kind and caring... he will check on you often. When Dr. Aceves is not there...Dr. Campos will be popping in often as well. When I walked I kept mostly to the hospital... but I know Gracie went all over the place and never felt unsafe. Wishing you the best with your surgery... your date will be here before you know it!
