My surgery is April 9th. I'm extremely excited, but i do have an odd question to ask. Is it okay to go to the tanning bed when your incisions heal? I'm 18 and I tan quite frequently. I also use tingle lotion. Would that hurt anything? I'm just making sure. Also, I didn't want to ask my doctor because he would discourage it all together. Thanks everyone! This app is so encouraging!

Unless you're on medications which make you sun-sensitive post-surgery, I can't imagine any reason that you can't go tanning. Well, I can - it's hideously bad for your skin and can lead to melanoma - but you're an adult making your own decisions and it has nothing to do with being sleeved :P

I would think that the incisions themselves would be sensitive at first. If you go right after surgery I would try to cover them in some way, bandaid or maybe a super thick layer of sunscreen, until they are fully healed

I admit that when I was on college....I tanned almost daily from March till May. Now....I really regret it. I have numerous spots that have to be watched long term :( My mom was DX with several skin cancers a while ago so now I am even more scared. I hate to say it.... but....if you must tan....I'd run it by your surgeon.....just to be sure.

I was told no tanning for 1 year.....I was told that at my 1 month post op class! Too late! I had already layed out several times. I love laying in the sun and I do it a lot. Also, I thought it would help my incisions to heal quicker. Oops! Anyhow, I was told it was because it will make your scars darker and guess what? Mine are purple. I'm 2 1/2 months out and they are completely healed but they are dark purple. Oh well. I don't really care, I still rock a 2 piece. But if you want your scars to be light in color I suggest covering them up.

I would say try not to tan in direct sun light for a couple of months... it WILL make your scars darker no question about it.. im sure it'll be safe to use a tanning lotion on your body just not directly on your scars... another thing about the sun light, if youre concerned about loose skin the sun doesn't help your skin's elasticity making it more probable for you to have excess loose skin if you sun bathe frequently... :-)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
