Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

I just got an AMAZING job!!!!

I sent an email and resume to be a nanny in exchange for a 1 bedroom apartment, because things have been though for my DH and I right now. We went to the interview tonight at 7:30 we liked them, they liked us, and she called an hour later to say they were cancelling the other interveiw tomorrow and that they want us to move in during the 1st week of September!! We will be living rent free in exchange for wastching 3 boys age 7,11, and 16. VERY well behaved boys. Don't really need a nanny except to help with homework, make sure they do their chores, and run them around to activities. 3-6 pm during the week, and one night a week until 10, helping them keep up the yard and snow removal. The apartment is literally 3 times the size of our place right now!!! And it is in a VERY nice neighborhood! I feel like I might need to buy dome nicer furniture now LOL!!

Also with this arrangement, my DH could just work part time, and go back to school!!

WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy for your success in this new direction. Congratulations.

HELLO NEWBIES. Your answers to your questions have been well responded. I wish you all the best of luck.

School started for me this week. I believe it will be a stellar year. People seem to be more sensative to my Fibromyalgia than before. I have decided not to tell anyone I work with about my Hep. C. My viral load was LOW.

Weight loss this week....4 pounds. It was like the natural flood gates of FUNctions from the land of Bod came open. This is a good challenge for me.

MY BAND IS DOING THE JOB I THINK IT WAS INTENDED to do. I've got tremendous restriction. Good long lasting fullness after my meals and oddly, a shift in tastebuds. Hypersensative to salty items and anything that seems greasy.

Well I had my fill....then I went out to have my customary meal before leaving town and quickly when back for an unfil. He put in 1.7cc then took out 0.4cc. I have been very careful today. The Protein Shake for Breakfast went down slowly. I am finally eating slowly and it is all going down. Let's see what this fill brings!

Wow Julie.ann it's a good thing that you stayed in town and had a bite to eat. What, may I ask is your customary meal before leaving town? 1.3cc is quite a lot actually. It doesn't seem that way, but it is.

Well at least I didn't gain this week, but I am down0. lame

Yes, at least you didn't gain. I always look at it that way. That's why I post +0.0 and not -0.0.

When do you start your new job?

Sure. Usually I nibble on some cottage cheese and chicken salad out in my vehicle and if that goes well I go to TGI Friday's and have the sizzlen chicken and cheese.

I forgot to nibble on the food in my blazer and I also usually let everything settle for about an hour or two, but my appt was late in the day and I was in a hurry to get out of town.

I'll never be in a hurry again. Things seem to be doing well. I am wondering if I may be tighter in the morning now. I never have been before. Every fill is different and I will take this one day at a time. I am at the lowest today than I have been in 6 weeks. I needed to see that! I have been on a platuea for about 2 months. Feels good to think I may be losing again!

When do you start your new job?

We move in on the 1st of september, so I am assuming that is when I start as well :D I must say that I am very excited for this change.DH and I are both registered for school, and I am getting more and more excited. I only have to take 6 classes to graduate, so hopefully I will be done with my associates by the spring! I am taking an english a computer class, and calligraphy for my fine art. Funny how none of my music classes count for a fine art requirement. But Calligraphy is one of my hobbies, so I am excited to learn more about it. I have already planned a garden that I want to start in the spring since I will have the space. Can you tell I am just excited about this whole thing?!?!

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
