Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Okay ladies, I had my pre-op today. Surgery is on Monday and I am officially beside myself...FREAKED OUT! Definitely having 2nd thoughts today. Probably a little too late for that.:D Just a few questions, where is your port located? I don't know why I was under the impression it would be closer to the rib cage. Also, Dr. K said I need to scrub w/special soap prior to surgery. Was I supposed to get it before I left the office??:crying: Thx!

Not to worry about the soap. He told me he usually has patients do it but since I was from out of town not to worry about it and just to shower before I went in.

I know it's already been 2 years for you guys and I'm assuming everyone is doing well ergo no complaints! Good to see..

I'm thinking of heading to Dr. K as well. Having surgury in NY is 2x the price. Except for out patient which they're doing now at NYU med center which is $14,500 !

The soap is called Hepacleanse (I'm not sure how to spell it) But you can buy it at Walgreens. I got the huge bottle and then I was given one by someone, so I have an extra if you live in town.

Also Dr. K places the port slightly to the left, of mid-point, just under the bra.

Oh My Goodness! You really need to talk to that person's supervisor. She should be ashamed of herself and she needs to be called on this! Want me to call? I will.

I might let you. I don't really know what to do. I honestly don't care that he is seeing her outside the hospital, but I do have a serious issue that she is disclosing these things to mental health patients. I feel like I have an ethical duty to report it, but it will make Shawn go psycho. Well, MORE psycho!!

Fist of all, OMG! That is my crazy ex's name!! Now I'll need ice cream for sure. Secondly, is this woman an actual nurse?! That is unbelievable. I know we have a nursing shortage but we must draw the line somewhere and keep the crazies out!

That is soooo funny because my friend Jen has a daughter who has a classmate named Shawn who drives her CRAZY. And these are 9 year olds! Her daughters theory is that everyone named Shawn is crazy because being an observative 9 year old she has observed that my Shawn is crazy also.:smile2: Kids are so funny.

Wow...i seem to hit one road block after another on this year long journey to get banded. Just received an e-mail from Dr. K's office saying I can not be along for the 24 hours after surgery. I guess he does out patient proceedres only? My husband is a busy man and can not fly to Colorado with me. MX is at least a hospital stay and hotel with others getting lap band.

There are ways around that, I was alone after my procedure. I just had to have someone pick me up from the hospital. (Thank you again Dee!) But, I think he kind of made an exception since I am a nurse also. I am not sure.

Okay, quick drive by between classes: (should I have spent this time actually prepping for my class? YES! Did I! NO, I got caught up on all the posts. Shame on me. Bad teacher. Bad bad bad).

First, Munchi, OMG about the sitter situation. I can't beleive that. How incredibly unethical. Sounds like they're a match made in hell.

Second, miss dee, quit taking the guys calls. That would drive me freakin' nuts.

Third, B & J - I miss Cherry Garcia sooooo much. I want a pint of Cherry Garcia. I do I do I do. I ate several pints during my last supper sydrome. That may have been part of the reason that I gained SIX POUNDS in two weeks. Oopsie.

BTW Tally, I forgot to reply that no, she is not an actual nurse, otherwise this would be an even far more serious situation. She could actually be reported to the board of nursing for an ethics violation if she were, and be formally disciplined for it.

When it rains, it pours. I have all these bills I need to pay, some of them need to be paid today, and for the first time in 10 years, my paycheck did not come in the mail on Thursday afternoon like it usually does like clockwork. Sigh... I am taking my last 6 bucks and getting some Ben & Jerrys. To hell with it!!:smile2: No seriously, I am going to go to my cute little Grammys house for one of her delicious homecooked dinners, then I will just have to hope it comes tomorrow and didn't get lost by the post office. Because that would suck!!

Awe...thank you so much! Thats so nice of you. I am in Westminster so I will make a trip to the local Walgreens.:smile2:

One more question, did any of you have trouble swallowing after surgery?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
