Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Well guys I did it!!!! I scheduled my surgery. I almost lost my chance because they did not want to reschedule me because I canceled twice because financing fell through. Dr. K came on the phone and talked to me personally and finally he changed his mind, but I had to make a deposit. My surgery is scheduled for July 17. My problem is that with money tight, I can't afford to take anyone with me. He won't let me go back to the hotel and spend the night alone. He says there is a service available where I can get a "sitter" to stay with me overnight!!! Has anyone heard of this? I feel a little uncomfortable about letting a stranger stay with me.

I am excited that I finally made this decision and there is no turning back now.

Sweetie,

Your surgery is on the 17th of July? So when would bookholder be staying with you? The night of the 17th? I can stay with you also or I can come in when she has to leave. I'm off the 17th and 18th. Do you need someone to take you to the Surgicenter? I could do that for you. I picked Munchkin up and took her back to her hotel.

Are you going to stay until the 19th? Or are you leaving on the 18th? Sorry for so many questions, I'm trying to figure it out. I'm going to Cheyenne on the 18th or 19th, I can't remember.

YAY Miss. Widow...How exciting!

I would offer to sit with you, but with 4 kids running around, not sure that would be your best bet!

Well, we certainly have lots of multi-tasking moms on our roads. I don't know how they do it!! Okay, here's an embarrassing thing - I'm really wimpy about driving and don't drive on the freeway. I don't drive at night. To be honest, I only drive in my general neighborhood. I bought a MINI Cooper because I can't park anything any bigger than that. It's really awful. So I won't find myself driving in Denver, that's for sure.

Well, now you all know what a BIG WUSS I am. But I save a lot on gas!!

I am sooooooo jealous that you have a Mini Cooper!! I had a Mazda Miata that was my alllllll time very favorite car in the entire world even though it was itty bitty! I loved that car!! I will get another one someday!:incazzato:

Yes, my angel Dee did pick me up and take me back to my hotel! I don't know what I would have done without her!:incazzato::biggrin::driving:

Fatwidow, I went to Colorado alone also, and it was ok-the biggest issue for me was getting back to the hotel from surgery, and Dee took care of that for me! Other than that it was smooth sailing!

Wow, I didn't realize how much I have missed you gals!! I am glad to be back!!

Ok...so, about my dogs...

-Bailey-8 (almost 9) year old male black lab (my sweet goofy boy who still acts like a puppy sometimes...)

-Abby-7 year old chocolate lab (queenie of the house)

-Jake-4 year old black lab (my anxiety ridden special needs lab)

-Reilly-4 year old black lab (the leader of the pack, so to speak)

and for my new addition....

-Brutus-1 year old fawn brindle English Mastiff (the biggest, sweetest, most gentle dog I have ever had the pleasure of being owned by)

That's it in a nutshell. I am now offically the "Crazy Dog Lady". You know, kind of like the crazy cat lady but with dogs instead! They are alot of work, but I love them to death and would not trade them for anything! Both Jake and Brutus came from homes where they were neglected (and possibly abused), and I never feel better than when I look at them and know that they are healthy, happy, loved, and safe now! Both of them are completely different dogs than they were when I brought them home from the shelter. I took a picture of Brutus yesterday and it was the first one he ever had a big ol Mastiff grin in!

I do love my MINI Cooper. Her name is Penelope. She's cute.

Your doggies sound wonderful. We had a black lab who died 4 years ago at the age of 15. She was such a wonderful, gentle, loving soul. Now we have an Australian Kelpie who had been abandoned. She has a genetic condition and is slowly going blind, but is so darned smart that you'd never know it.

I'm officially a crazy cat lady though. I have four of them. They sleep on me at night. I keep telling them that when I lose weight there won't be enough room for all of them!

Sorry Tied2...I didn't get a chance to post yesterday. I'm happy to report I lost 5 lbs from last week!!! I don't know how that happened since I only went to the gym once. It's probably because I had my first "STUCK FOOD" episode this week! OMG....that SUCKS!!!! I've been on soft foods for the last 2 days trying to heal. Man....I hope to never do that again!Looks like everyone is doing great!

I am still stuck on the scale, although I have TOM as my excuse this week so maybe by next week I will show a loss, at least still no gain. I am working out at the gym 4-5 times per week and amazed how much better I feel afterwards!!!

Dee, put me down as a zero again this week :incazzato:

Hey Brandymom - My appointment is at 10! That would be fun to meet you in person. I don't know why but I'm kind of nervous to have a fill. I need one so I'm going through with it. Besides that I've bought my plane ticket - more than twice what I paid to come have my surgery a month ago! This will probably be my last trip to the office because of the price of the plane trip. Dr K. makes it easy to get a fill but the airlines are just not as accommodating. I will go to a Fill Center USA near St Louis. My daughter lives in St Louis which is about a 5 hour drive from me. The Fill Center is about 4 hours away but I can cancel or reschedule easier than if I am flying.

Now aren't you glad I said all that - good grief I'm wordy today!

Hope to see you Thursday Brandymom! Sidney

Sidann~

If you want, I can come a little early and I can hold your hand...seriously, I will. I am local so it would be no problem at all for me! Just let me know!

Hey everyone, a little more advice. Do you think I should be ok to leave the evening of the 18th? I am scheduled for surgery on the 17th; or should I wait one more day? Munchkin, did Dr. K say it was ok to be alone all night or you didn't tell him. I thinking I could have one of you bandsters pick me up from the surgery center and get me settled in and I agree with Munchin that I should be ok to stay alone. I will have a telephone close by to call someone if something serious happens.

Someone please let me know if I should stay that extra day. Also did I remember someone saying that I will have to have prescriptions filled and ready for the night? How much money are we talking about. I just trying to figure how much I am going to need.

Thanks everyone!!!!

Brandymom - what a sweet offer! I am truly thankful for that gesture of support. My sister in law is going with me so I won't be alone. She isn't heavy and hasn't ever experienced weight problems but she has other areas of addiction. As a result she understands that I need support and has been there for me.

Your offer and those offers others have made for Fatwidow have made me realize what a special group of people you are on this thread. I've read other threads on this site and never find the compassion and true concern I find here (unless it's someone from this thread that responds). I'll look for you when you come in for your appointment. Hopefully I'll be done before they take you back for yours. Thank you again for your offer of on the spot support!

Miss Widow~

I know for me that if I had to travel, it would have been a nightmare 1 day out. I went to Princess' on Ice, and don't remember a thing. Nothing, nada and if my best friend had not been there, my daughter would have been left!

I would say wait at least 2 days before going home...that is me though!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
