Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody, DynamoMini, You are so lucky it is really beautiful there, you have alot to look forward to with the trip and banding. Relax and enjoy your vacation and before you know it you will be sipping broth! Soon to be banders------ I also liked the Knorrs chicken broth cubes, they are large but can be split up easily, they dissolve quickly and are easy to travel with for those of you that will be flying, they come in a box.

Hasta manana! Ole!

I'll be sipping in April. I think a Marguarita or two wouldn't hurt before my preop diet. Lots of walks on the beach, painting under the palm trees, just listening to the waves. It is a good life.

Oh man you got me drooling! I am absolutely in love with the Carribean, it is the most fantastic color of clear turquiose waves and white sand. If you like shells, at Xelha everyone goes snorkling which is wonderful but take a walk out to the beach there, the beach isn't that nice no one really swims there but we found the most beautiful large shells washed up.Nobody even bothers with the beach there, a girlfriend and I had all the shells we wanted last year. What kind of painting do you do? I love watercolors but haven't done anything in a long time. I should have been born in Mexico I even love taking a siesta in the afternoon,LOL Sunnysea

Lap Dancer,

We stayed right down the street from that hotel at the Hampton Inn. I requested a medical rate and we got a discount! We had a refrigerator and microwave in our room, whiched helped a lot for the day after surgery. There is a big variety of restaurants there, even ones that have Soup and such. Its less then 1/2 mile from the hospital. I really liked the area. :clap2: I'm sure you will too!

Hey Machele. THANKS!

I'm hoping for closer to the hospital or on the same block. I was told the Holiday Inn was very close. True?

We got a suite for 89$ with the microwave and fridge having that medical rate.

I am so excited.

Lap Dancer-- True! The Holiday Inn is closer to the hospital than the Hampton Inn. I'm glad you got the medical rate! When I made my reservations I told them I was there for surgery and that was the rate they gave me too! It is a nice area to walk as well, not much traffic and all!

Hey, Tater Bug!!! I finally got my date with Dr. K, and I am also April 13th! Mine is at 2:30...how about you?

Man, they weighed me in the office today and I guess that my home scale is a bit off. Rats! Oh well, guess that is all about to change anyways. You know what else? My husband came with me today and actually heard what I weigh.:embarassed: It's not that he doesn't know that I am fat, (really!) he just really never knew the exact amount. I'll live! Can't wait! :clap2:

The scale in the office weighs me about 5 pounds heavier than my scale at home. I go to the office so infrequently anymore that I just go by my scale.

Congrats to all you peeps with surgery dates!

Hey Woofay!

Congrats on being scheduled!!!! I was scheduled for the Thrusday before but changed because a couple is flying in from out of town and needed to be done on separate days so I let them have mine (they were both going to go on Friday I think). So then they were going to put me at 2:30 on friday and I had happened to ask if there was anything earlier in the day SO.. I am at 12:30! We're gonna be there at the same time!!! Maybe I will see you!

I have been getting things ready for my pre and post op food. I have Protein Powder that I add to my cooked food but since I need a lot more Protein on a more regular basis.. I am looking into the following websites: www.wlssuppliesl.com they have sample packages of the different types and flavors of the protein powder shakes. Also at www.dpsnutrition.net there are some IDS New Whey Liquid Protein shooters that I will be ordering.. one pack is 25 grams of protein raspberry flavor and there is also 42 grams of protrein in grape and orage. I saw on here that someone gets the 42 gr protein and laces it into propel Water. They are made in a way so that they dont need to be kept in a refridgerator and are in a tube that is meant to travel anywhere. I plan on keeping at least one of these with me for when I go out for the day - plan ahead so wont be stuck trying to figure out what to do.

That is funny about your husband... I was the same way and he had been asking and asking what I weigh and I never told him... just "too much". It is hard when they actually hear and know the real number!

I am still having a hard time trying to figure out what to make my long term goal weight. I want it to be a 'goal' that I need to work for but not set it too high that I am afraid that I can't reach it. My first mini goal is to hit 200 or even better 199 by July 4th. Hopefully that is reachable.

That's a good point about using our normal scales at home DrewsLou! How are things going for you?

Thanks for the supply sites, Tater. I'll go there after here. I guess I do need to get stuff together. I was a little more than 5 lbs over on their scale too. Like 5 lbs really matters in the relm of things when you are 120 lbs over weight. :girl_hug: The reason I got the 13th is because someone cancelled, other wise I think that it was going to be the 25th. Maybe unlucky for someone...not for me! I really liked everyone there. Dr. K has a very reassuring way about him, does he not? Very matter of fact and positive that this system works. I was a little apprehensive before, but not anymore. Does their nutritionist help you set goals (she is out of town for a week) or is this something that I do? I'm like you, I don't want to be too careful so that I am not "let down" again, but need to be where I really need to be.

I also have one other question about this site...when you see that someone is viewing on here, is there instant messaging ability? Just wondered.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
