I can't wait to meet Dr. Aceves! Pretty scared about the surgery but it helps to see your experience... thanks so much for sharing... especially for those of use that will be following in your footsteps! Good luck with your next leak test... and I bet you will be glad to get that drain out!

I'm so ready to get the drain out! Dr Aceves is so nice and personable. My mom, who was extremely skeptical about surgery on Mx, is impressed and pleased.

It may sound a bit silly but after all the research I've been doing on this when I met him it was almost like meeting a celebrity. Smh... Silly.

Well... for me it almost feels more like I will meeting a family I have come to know instead of the experience I had with getting my lapband. I never felt familiar or comfortable with my lapband surgeon or staff and in the hospital I never saw the nurses or staff unless they were taking my vital signs. Already this is a much better experience and I'm not even in the same country!

Amanda... I saw somewhere that people held ice chips on their tongue before the barium study and that helped ease the icky taste... don't know if it is true but it's worth a try! Let us know how it goes and you will probably need to tell me about the drain removal... I hope it is quick and painless!

Hey Darcy and Amanda Rae... your posts are helping me immensely! I will be in Mexicali on July 8th and your positive experiences are helping me to know I made a good decision to go with Dr. Aceves!

Amanda, so did you have 1, 2, or 3 leak tests now? I saw the blue stuff leak test, now barium... did you get one while under anesthesia?

I hope we are of like minds! I'm getting better at sipping. And burping. Not to be gross or tmi but I really want to toot!! I'm on the edge of a toot, I know it.

It may also be because the lab tech told me "Just try not to vomit for 5 seconds or we'll have to start over" before I drank it, so I went in with very negative thoughts :)

No leaks! I got to see my tiny stomach in action. Too cool. Graduated to chicken broth.

Totally better than the blue liquid.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
